Are underfolders really that bad?

Unfortunately there aren't any gun stores in the area that have AKs, out of all the stores I've been to only one had an AK. So unless there are some underfolders at the gunshow tomorrow I guess I'm out of luck.

My friend had one and I hated it! I didn't like the sight alignment, the metal dug into my cheek each time I fired it and it was just plain uncomfortable.

Gewehr98...

I notice that is a stamped AK. Is that side folder mounted to a WASR 10, and if so, do you mind sharing place you got it, and how it mounts in a PM? Pretty please:eek: :D !!

Still 2 Many Choices!?

I was all set on getting an underfolder AK but so many people have told me that shooting one is very uncomfortable. Now I'm not sure what I want...

I personally don't find the underfolder or side-folder wire stocked AKs to be all that uncomfortable to shoot. If you're used to a real nice cheek weld like you'd get with a traditionally stocked rifle, I imagine they'd kind of annoy, but if you work with them even then you can get used to them.

Not too difficult.

The rifle is a Romanian SAR-1, which is a stamped receiver variant, like the later WASR variants, but with magwell dimples and set up for full-capacity AK mags. The sidefolder is the standard East German/Romanian wire sidefolder, which mounts using the original tang screws, no modifications necessary. You simply remove the original wooden buttstock, insert the sidefolder's mounting block into place, insert and tighten stock screws, and Voila'!

Sneaky--the picture of the stock along is a lever type, the one below attached to the gun is a push button type...what are you trying to pull there, mister?

I prefer a standard stock, but if I need a folder I prefer the romy/east german sidefolder type.

Not intended to be sneaky, sorry.

I bought my pushbutton wire sidefolder on eBay some time ago for $30.00. Still2ManyChoices asked me where to find them, so I came up with a source, albeit with lever vs. pushbutton. The latter is actually easier to open and close than the former, from what I've heard. ;)

Well I went to the gun show in Reading today and finally found an underfolder to hold.

It was a very cheap AK with a bad finish but I actually liked the stock, and yes it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world but it didn't feel bad plus it had a rock solid lock-up!

I think I've finally decided to get an underfolding Arsenal SAS M-7.

But there was one thing I'm not sure about, the stock on the AK at the show locked at a slight angle but the Arsenal locks straight back, does this make a difference?

I have a Vector Polish AK-47 Underfolder and I like it. Obviously, a wood stock AK is far more "natural" to shoot, but I have no trouble or discomfort shooting mine.

I basically see the rifle fit the role. I have a wood stock Romanian "G" that is my knock-around all purpose light carbine. The Underfolder goes with me in the vehicle and also serves well in a Home Defense Role. A converted Saiga 308 fills the role of a full powered MBR/DMR.

As for wobbling, there IS a way to tighten a wobbly underfolder. You have to push out a pin in the folding mechanism, then turn the folder wheel a bit until you get the desired stiffness, and then reinstall the pin. I have a tad of wobble in my Vector, and I need to get off my butt and tighten it.
