Are you a "Brand snob" ?

Not a brand snob, but I do get excited when I keep repeatedly reading about how reliably unreliable 1911s are. I've only owned 4 over the years, so the sample size is small, but I've never had a peck of trouble from my unmodified, unbroke-in, moderately priced, mass produced, shoot any kind of bullet profile 1911s.

Yep, I'm a snob. Big time. If it's a revolver, it has to say S&W or Colt. I own a few other brands, but Colt and S&W are my favorites.

I like Ruger and Glock handguns, Ruger rifles, Remington 870s for shotguns and the SKS for a SHTF rifle. I don't really need much else I guess :). Not really a snob, I just like guns that work.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

A little bit. I tend to want things made by companies I've actually heard of. I'm a bit hesitant on buying mystery products. Normally I'll come here and research them and find out it's probably not anything I would enjoy anyhow.

Not so much a brand snob as a quality snob. I have been collecting for 30 years. Over that time I have learned that for the most part my dollars are better spent on brands like S&W, Colt, Ruger, Kimber,Remington, Winchester,Walther, CZ, Browning,FN ,Beretta, etc...I can go on and on. These are good companies that generally make a good product.

I have also learned that guns made by certain makers are to be avoided. For instance anything by RG and assembled in Hialeah Florida are junk in my view. I learned that at the tender age of 15 with a RG 23 Revolver that was chambered in .22lr. It would fire reliably in single action but not double action. Sight regulation was poor...as was quality. There are a number of companies out there I think make a crappy products but the market eventually takes care of that. One of the reasons RG is gone. ;)

Among some of the old-school LEOs that I basically grew up with, there were only three brands of handguns: Smith and Wesson, Colt, and "Offbrand."
That doesn't apply to me, though. Other brands that have earned my respect include: CZ, Glock, HK (although overpriced), Sig, Beretta, Ruger, Springfield, and Star. Brands other than these I would call "Offbrands."

So, yeah, I'm a bit of a snob I suppose.

Yep, I'm a brand snob......

That why I have the following:
1 Browning
6 Colts
2 Crossman
1 Glock
1 Ithaca
2 Marlins
1 Remmington
2 Rugers
6 Smith & Wessons
1 Springfield Armory
1 Stoger
3 Uberti Cimmarron
3 Winchesters

30 Total, 21 of which are Hand Guns:D

I tend to like most brands..... Especially if reliable and look good....

I have... One Mossberg, one Walther, one Kel-Tec, one NEF, one North American Arms, one mutt, and two Berettas.

Uh. Berettas win, I guess?

Well let's see:
4 Rugers
1 Browning
1 Springfield Armory
1 Dan Wesson
1 Taurus
1 Marlin
2 Savages
1 Mossberg
1 I don't know cheap copy of a Navy 44 cal black powder

Well maybe a slight bias on Rugers, but a gun snob, no.

I'm with 420 stainless.

It seems there is a movement underway to convince anyone who spends less than $1000 on a 1911 that it can't be depended upon to save your life.

I've bought several guns over the years I regretted, and no one could talk me out of getting them at the time. The only guns I will disparaige are guns that have failed me, and when I DO mention it, I hope anyone who sees it will realize that my experience is just that: my experience.

Let people shoot, drive, listen to, worship, romance, etc WHATEVER THEY WANT TO.

There's more'n Smith and Wesson and 1911 out there. If I sometimes fire at S&W, it's only because so many Smith snobs fire at Ruger, Taurus, and Rossi, all brands I have or do own along with a Smith and have had really good experiences with. I had 2 1911s I never warmed to because they gave me so much angst when I first got 'em. I had to spend money to make 'em work when I felt they should work out of the box and when they finally worked, they only worked with a limited number of loads and nothing with a hole in the front. Finally, I decided Jeff Cooper and all other highly opinionated gun writers were full of caca and went my own way. That turned me off to 1911s and I swore off 'em. Now, it don't help that there are so many Cooper disciple 1911 snobs that think if you carry anything else, you are going to die and must have a death wish because only a 1911 will kill a man in a gun fight. I've out shot a lot of lesser marksmen with my Ruger P90 that were 1911 snobs and they never seem to get the point. I think it's more the man behind the gun than the platform. Spending all your time worrying about hardware and never developing the software seems sort of stupid, trying not to be any kind of snob here.

Anyway, I've never understood the "fits my hand" argument. If you don't like the fit, ADAPT, or maybe BUY A DIFFERENT GRIP. I can adapt to about anything, even broom handle Mausers. It is not good to be so picky about a gun that you can't hit with anything, but that kind of gun (which is a suspicious claim anyway). What if you have to pick up another gun off a dead guy to finish a fight or something? What if in a SHTF situation, a friend gives you a gun and you can't grasp it because it "doesn't fit your hand" and falls in the mud because you can't figure out how to hold it.... When I see "it doesn't fit my hand", I hear brand snob bells and alarms going off. That's the most common gripe against Glocks. JUST SAY IT, I'M A SNOB AND I THINK ALL GUNS SHOULD BE BLUED STEEL CAUSE GOD ORIGINALLY MADE THE FIRST ONE THAT WAY!!!! I mean, you could also add that God is JMB, but hey, don't wanna be sacrilegious.

Another gun snob argument is "can't stand the trigger" when made about a DA revolver or DAO auto. There's gun snob alarms going off....ring, ring, ring, 1911 snob....alert, alert!!!!! DA requires you apply yourself to LEARN the technique. It's a little tougher than learning a 2 lb single action trigger, also a lot safer to actually carry. If you don't study, you won't pass the test and you'll flunk out and be a loser. Apply yourself and you can learn anything, even DA revolver shooting.

I've always had a pretty limited budget. Buying a $1000 gun isn't in the cards. I like a gun that works, quality for less money, high value. When I find such a gun, I feel fullfilled. I appreciate high end guns, especially shotguns, but I know the lower priced stuff can work just as well. I kill ducks just as dead using my $300 Mossberg as my buddy does with his Benelli, more actually cause he ain't that good a wing shot. :D What I REALLY don't understand is a guy that carries a 42 ounce 1911 all day IWB and says he "enjoys" it or at least that it doesn't bother him. In reality, he doesn't think any other style of gun is worthy, he is a gun snob. Carrying an effective firearm doesn't have to hurt.

Ah, thank you for letting me vent......:D :D :D :D :D

ROTFL.............Best anti-snob post all day. :D

I guess I am... I require ALL my guns to have a brand... no generics for me...

it doesn't matter WHAT the brand is, as I have Hi-points, davises, S&W's, Rugers, Dan Wessons, Winchesters, Brownings, Stevens, Springfields, etc...

Yep... I am a brand-snob... I will not accept generic no-brand guns!

I'm a bit suspicious of brands that have a reputation for low quality and unreliability. However, I do check them out.

Fun2Shoot,
I've also noticed the flip side of your gun snob behavior. Along with unthinking loyalty to a certain brand, many folks also have a knee-jerk dislike of certain manufacturers. In reading these forums, I've noticed quite a bit of condemnation of certain brands, only some justified. Some political - folks still hate Ruger for Bill Ruger's statements, and S&W for selling out to Bill Clinton. Aren't those situations over with? Sometimes people denounce all guns made by X as junk because they once owned one out of tens or hundreds of thousands made, and it had problems. If y'all can make predictions based on that small a sample you should be predicting election results and doing opinion polls. Some individuals have never owned or fired a firearm made by the company they trash, and they're still convinced the guns are junk. :scrutiny:

For examples of all of this, try 'Worst Gun Maker?' on the General Gun Discussions board.

Folks need to lighten up, I think.

S&W does have an edge on looks -- Rugers tend to be a bit fugly.
I disagree, especially when it comes to Model 29 compared to Redhawk. The reason I bought my Redhawk all those years ago was because it was the most beautiful .44 magnum in the world at the time. I still think so, though the Colt Anaconda deserves a second look.

But even though I have 10 or more brands, I have to confess a bit of a bias toward Colt. Guess I'll always have a soft spot for them. And as was said, I am more of a platform bigot. 1911s. How do you improve on perfection?

I have never seen the "value" or "appeal" of Ruger or Taurus guns.

All of my Rugers and NAA's handguns will still be shooting when my HK's, Colts, S&W's, Charters & Walthers have long since petered out! :) In my mind Rugers & NAA are premium brands built to last several lifetimes and then some. They may not ride like a Cadillac but they will outlast a Tank, are accurate and extremely reliable! I do not consider looks when purchasing a handgun as beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Heck, I might even purchase a Glock in the future if Gaston would see fit to do someting about those unsupported chambers! :D

Yep, Colt. I am selling just about every other brand I own so I have room/$ for more Colts.

The only thing I plan on keeping for sure is my Beretta 92F United We Stand and my PPK/S.
