I don't worry about my name being shown. Stickers on my truck..bumper sticker on the end gate and logo on my hat. Whenever I get someone who wants to argue I just say please give me your name and address. I need to add you the list of those who do not wish any protection when the mob comes for you. I will be glad to send your name in so that you won't be offended. They usually give me a look which is halfway between bewilderment and deer in the headlights. Which is pretty much their normal look anyway. Proud member.

While appreciate and know that I benefit from most of their actions I still don't cut them any slack for their conduct or lack of it in the California fiasco given their overt "hands in the air" tac on that one.

Still, even after that I popped for my second "life membership" but when that one too got somehow converted to a paying member who was in arrears - well, pulled the plug on them and went elsewhere to render support.

Just an explanation as to why this TWICE life member is not "... an active member of the NRA".

Fool me once, shame on you, coerce me twice, double shame on you... won't be a third for this guy.

I am surprised at the 90% active or will be. I did not expect it to be this high. I figured 60% would be about where we'd be.

Membership in three year increments, but plan to go the life route when the current membership expires. Also contribute to NRA-ILA. Never got serious about the NRA until about six years ago. Contrary to what some may feel, we NEED SOMEONE who can orchestrate our common interests. Who else can represent our interests on the same level that they do now?

My wife was content to let me be the one in the family with a membership.

After Sandy Hook and the obvious fight that was brewing, she felt it was time she join up, so she did.

So we get twice the junk mail now. :)

Yes, but more than several years ago I was a little skeptical of the organization, because my only info came from the mass media and had no clear exposure to gun people in over twenty five years.

A guy at work put a couple of issues into the correct context, i.e. the so-called "cop killer bullets" and one more.

It was clear to me that my head had been in a "dark cavity" and decided to learn more.
Still waiting to hear about a different organization which has similar clout to defend our Second Amendment rights....this wait will require patience.

Many people seem to believe that an organization which represents a combination of viewpoints must be perfect.
It is so nice to benefit from other peoples' money sent to the NRA.

I was a member for several years, but some time ago I decided to let my membership lapse, for reasons I won't go into here.

I do still donate directly to the NRA-ILA though, as their work is very important to me.

Yes and no

Was a membeer for years and got sick of the NRA asking for money a couple times a month. So I quit. Have since rejoined a few years back, and damned if I didn,t get a call last week asking me for a donation of $200.00. I told her if they called again asking for a donation I would quit the NRA againh. Bad management in the NRA somwhere.

In the early 80's, I started off as an "annual". About 10 years later, they offered "Life" as an interest-free rate before they raised it to $750.
About 12 years ago, I moved up to "Endowment" for half price. They keep hitting me up to move up to "Patron" at half price as well. Problem is that, being "involuntarily retired" I can't afford to move up.
Now, I'm more inclined to make a donation to the Second Amendment Foundation instead.

Ive been a life member for about 5 years...Before that I re-upped annually.

The only thing I didn't like is the amount of junk mail I got . I ended up calling them and telling them I'd quit if the mailings didn't stop and they actually listened.

I appreciate the NRA and advocate for them regularly...

I just upgraded to Endowment and have given 2 gift memberships in the last couple of months. I just hope they stay active.

Yes, NRA isn't perfect and I've had issues with them, but I'm also on the local committee and give them my input when inspired to do so. :D

I am surprised at the 90% active or will be. I did not expect it to be this high. I figured 60% would be about where we'd be.

Not surprised at all personally.. The people on gun boards are generally more active than just a plain jane gun owner that may only pick up their gun once or twice a year for hunting, etc.

Life member NRA, GOA, GRNC.

Even as seldom as I watch the news on television, I've noticed two strange assumptions:

1. The NRA should form their views based on popular opinion as shown in polls x,y,z
2. The NRA sets the platform from which its members form their views

That the NRA is acting as a voice to reflect some of the beliefs and concerns of a large bloc of Americans is somehow not understood. Instead, the perception is that the NRA is somehow dictating views to its membership.

As far as gun owners not supporting the NRA, many members (or former members) have found the organization's positions to be too compromising. Others are simply tired of phone calls, letters, and emails pouring in. And then there are those who are just apathetic to the whole situation and haven't ever considered getting involved.

What is an "active" member? Someone who participates in promoting the NRA? Seems to me that a person is either a member or is not a member. A past or future member is not a member.
