Sadly an almost forgotten holiday. Growing up most towns and cities had parades and such. Locally there is only one city left that has a parade. In fact they have events planned for the entire weekend. They usually manage to get the Guard troops out to supply military hardware.

My old boss recommended* that I accompany him the last couple years, and yesterday was no exception.
It can be a bit of a goat-rope for the troops, ginning up a parade or assembly, on a Saturday, tends to lend itself to rigamarole rather than "rah rah."
The lack of public perception is veru much linked to the minority numbers of people in military service. Which also limits the potential "audience" for such events.
But, for a few, we few, it is remembered. If not always wit ha parade, or fanfare.
