12ga buckshot at 15 ft is good BG medicine

The moment the BG moved his gun is when he should have shot him.

Mljdecard, assuming the bad guy is holding a gun at full arm's length, which is unlikely, that makes it no more than 36 inches from head of hostage to head of badguy. Unless you further assume they're on the same plane facing the shooter, anyone other than a trained swat team member taking that shot with buckshot would be stupid and reckless. As a matter of fact, even a swat member would be better prepared to use a rifle in such a situation.

Story does not make sense until I see that this has happend 7 times. 7 times??? Is it even remotely possible that the 45 year-old son is part of this? Sure sounds suspicious given the freaquency; makes me wonder if the 70 year old is being victomized internally. His show of resistance would provide needed cover if he were benefitting from this somehow; living in the house he would be in a good position to know when something worthwhile had been acquired. Not wishing to offend--Just tossing it out there.

Wishin, how much do you think buckshot spreads in in-house distances? YOU NEED TO PATTERN YOUR GUN.
Exactly. The myth "OMG it'll cover a wall!" about shotguns abounds even on gun forums.

At across-the-room distances, the pattern is probably about the size of a softball, if that large.
