good work Erwan. that's the geometry I was trying to describe.

See the distance the sear must travel before it disengages the notch? That's creep or drag you may feel in the trigger.

As the tumbler rotates, it must be outside of that red line drawn by Erwan.

I made sure the sear spring was set in the notch, as far as I could tell. I'll double check it though.

I'll get fresh pictures up tonight as requested. I'm helping my Dad with some tree's today. He's almost 75 with a pacemaker, and if my Mom hand't called to ask me to come help he'd be cutting and bucking mesquite by himself today in the middle of the Texas summer. I hope I've got that much go left in me when I'm that age.

Erwin: Looking at your drawing that would mean the full cock notch is too shallow then? Is is possible to build that back up? A new tumbler isn't too expensive ($35), just curious if this one is salvageable.

I think the starting notch is too worn. It might be possible to load it with solder or to bring back a piece of hard steel taking temper or carburization but it would not be good, not a good job ...
The simplest job would be to change the tumbler for a new one.

If it's not too expensive do this, change the part for a new one ... ...

Alright, as it was determined to be a tumbler issue, and not worth trying to rebuild the current part I ordered one from S&S for $35. I'll keep everyone posted on how that goes. I'll take a photo or two of the new tumbler when it gets here to show the differences between the two.

Or if you find a welder you can have him weld it like I described for my Bess.

My 2 band Enfield has suddenly developed a strange malady. Previously it had a pretty decent trigger, but now I find that about 60% of the time, pressing it will cause the hammer to fall to half cock. After taking the lock off, nothing obvious was the problem. Looking at it, the full cock notch seem fine, the sear locks good, and the sear spring and main spring are plenty strong. Any suggestion on where to look?

Here is how to redo your lock

You will probable still need to rework the new one to get a good trigger pull. Did you also get a new sear ? I hope

Oh just took a closer look at photos. From photosI would get a new main spring (yours is broke off at the sturrip. and a sturrip
