Army opposes legislation to release surplus pistols to CMP?

The Army as an institution is very anti gun. They are not particularly pro civilian either, and the idea of civilians running around with surplus Army guns is not something they want. The Army does not see a need for armed civilians, they do not support Civilian marksmanship, and they sure do not want Politicians blaming them, for the deaths that will happen, with these weapons. Someone, somewhere, will shoot somebody with one of these M1911's and the anti gun crowd will create scandal, and the Army will be pulled into it.

Historically speaking, this is why the military is subject to civilian authority in this country.

If push comes to shove, the Army can whine about this issue with the surplus 1911's all they wish, even throw some pretty heavy weight around about it.

But if Congress passes a law, and it's "legal", then the military better d*mn well follow it.

(Let's not go into depth here on "legal"...what I mean is it's a law that's within their power and authority to pass and meets the requisites of the Constitution and other sources.)
