I was asked if I had a gun after I donated plasma. I just thought I would share this with you, although it happened a few months ago. I am a college student and I donate plasma twice a week as a part-time side job. I do not have a carry permit yet, but am in the process of applying. I had my coat laying on top of me and he told me that I could not do that. So he asked me if he could put my coat up on a nearby ledge. I let him. He said that my coat was heavy and in a way that sounded like he was joking he asked, \"You do not happen to have lead in here do you?\" I thought that he was joking about lead pipes, so I was like \"Yea, I do.\" So after I was done donating plasma, the assistant manager saw me walking out and was like, \"Hey, can I talk to you for a second?\" So he took me in a side room and asked if I had any weapons on me. I said no, even though I did have pepper spray on me. He said that my coat was heavy and he thought I had a gun in it. I explained to him that I did not, although I did not tell him that I was wanting to get a concealed firearms permit. He said that he keeps tabs on all those who have guns. Later, I saw one of the higher ups at the plasma donating place, not far under the assistant manager position. I told her that the assistant manager thought I had a gun on me and called me into another room. When I told her this, her eyes widened and she was like, \"He did!\" Then she said, \"Well, we get a lot of crazies coming in and we do not put up with people with weapons. One time I was setting up a guy at one of the machines and he pulled out a knife and started waving it around in the air to show me. I was like, \'Okay that\'s it! Out now!\' We do not put up with weapons and so I can understand why he asked you.\"

Now I am in the process of getting a permit, and will plan on carrying at the plasma center once I receive the CFP, there are no signs posted. I find it interesting how most people automatically assume that just because someone has a gun, that automatically means that something is wrong. They do not seem to realize that some people have permits for them.

I goto school at OSU in columbus Ohio. Get used to it. Idiots fear guns and think everyone w/ one is a criminal. Just look at how VT could've been stopped w/ CCW.

That's rediculous! But I suppose they do have the right to ask you to leave. All you can do is just ask to talk to some of the higher ups and tell them that you will have a permit and it is legal. If you're a regular and they know you, it may turn out that they just tell you to keep it under the table or they may say that there's no way that its gonna happen in which case you'll have to leave it at home on those days when you donate. A lot of people here have to leave their guns in their cars when they go to work. Its just a sacrifice you'll have to make. Does suck though. It is interesting that the guy's mind went straight to guns when he felt the weight. He must have some familiarity with guns or else maybe he had a few bad experiences. Most people never think about it.

Most plasma centers, particularly around colleges, are known to have seedy characters frequenting them.

when i lived in oklahoma i donated fairly regularly...not every 56 days like they wanted, lol, but every 3 months or so...they didn't have any signs up about weapons and as they say "concealed means concealed means concealed", so no one ever knew i had one on me...

...if there are no signs, legal or otherwise, then just carry concealed, be observant about how your carrying so it doesn't show, and feel safer...

...if someone does spot it, then just do as stated above. by sniper..tell them your licensed and if they tell you to leave it in the car or just leave, take it up with the supervisor...if they still refuse to let you carry legally, i would find a new plasma center...

I would suggest finding a normal job. Either way it seems like it was just a joke as opposed to a serious question.

What state are you in? It may not be illegal for you to carry on campus depending upon your state's law.

My favorite lines of response to that question:
Why do you need back up?
Doesn't everyone?
Only a ray-gun....
Well,I always have one since the abduction and anal probe.
None of your concern.
Why are you with the ATF?Bacause I have no alcohol or tobacco on me.
Of course any of the above may get you thrown out,but ti is pretty funny....till they call the cops.:D

One of the cardinal rules of the blissninnie gun controllers is:

"Most people can’t be trusted so we should have laws against guns, which all criminals will obey because they can be trusted."

This person was/is an utter idiot.

Why is that?

Pilgrim, I must say, you always have the best one line responses to stupid statements from the anti's. I think that's about the fourth time I've spewed coffee everywhere because of one of your posts. :D

If they deal with a lot of crazies I can see a policy where they won't put up with people carrying concealed without a CHL (which is illegal anyway in most states). If I were working there I'd be packin :)
I went for a CT scan (or one of those acronym type scans) once and was carrying IWB. I saw the machine and thought "oh crap if that's one of those big magnet ones I'll have to either be stealthy when I disarm or go through the explanation that it's ok if this machine operator freaks out". Luckily he said I didn't have to remove anything. I thought of a quick an unpleasant visual of me being stuck to the machine by my glock (since it ain't ALL plastic!) :p

Although the plasma buying game is big near colleges now--it WAS the traditional avenue for more seedy elements to get a few bucks. Similarly, before AIDS hit in the 80's, whole blood used to be bought for cash near the skid rows of just about every major city.

No offense intended regarding your dealings--one of my best friends saved up to buy his wife-to-be an engagement ring bought with plasma $$$.

The one in DeKalb, IL (NIU) is in the Walmart parking lot(?).

I wouldn't make a big thing about it--just don't flash the piece. If asked, say no. Even if your coat is '.44 mag' heavy. None of their concern, right?

Just let them know you only are a repeat customer to support you gun 'habit'!!!

And I can't resist, so forgive me in advance: Do you think sperm banks get worked up about concealed carry also?

Blood and blood products are still bought in poor areas of towns and cities with homeless people. Not everyone who is homeless has AIDS. I think with the question on sperm donation they are probably more concerned about what you have chambered. They would probably be very concerned if you were shooting blanks. :neener:

A curt reply of "none of your business" would have been in order. Or you could have said, "what are your plans if somebody starts kicking down your door?"

My best, I think, came when I worked for the sheriff. A good looking girl in records piped up, "I think only police and military should have guns."

I answered, "Good. With that line of thinking we'll soon be able to make you do whatever we want."

Amateur. My usual response to someone showing me a knife is:

"You call that a knoife? That's not a knoife..."

I also have props for this line.

I didnt think you could safely donate blood more than once in three months... but I cant be sure.

I would think they might also be concerned with lead contamination, although I'm not a doctor nor do I play one on TV. But just a thought. I don't do 'donations' so I have no idea how it works.
