Typical yardage for handgun and long gun?

I like to shoot my handguns at the longest range my eyes could see little holes in the target - 25 yards. I also shoot at 15 yards.

As for long guns, I shoot 50 yards with an AR-15, but would like to move to 100 and 200 yards.

For large caliber handguns (.45, 9MM) I like to keep it up close (personal defense ranges), 7 - 15 yds. For .22 pistol, 25 yds minimum. For rifle, I like 50 - 100 yards but would like to get out more than that but the range is only 100 yds.

I shoot handguns 25 to 50 yards mostly. But occasionally much longer distances for fun. I shoot the Garand and the FN at 2-3 hundred, but I can hit large boulders here in the desert at ridiculously long distances with them.

I generally practice handguns at 10yds to 25 yards. But occasionally I shoot at 100 yards. Even my little P-11 can hit a man-size target frequently at 100 yards. Once shot my Hi-Power (clone) at 200 yards. Took about 15 tries to hit a 14" square steel target.

Rifles, I shoot at 100 or 200 yards. 200 is the max at my local range. I sometimes shoot longer when plinking.

Typical handgun ranges stay around 25 yards for me. Non-typical ranges are 300 yards at 10" metal gongs (now that's a blast to do).
I sight at 100 yards with centerfire rifles and shoot at 300 yards typically. For rimfires I sight at 50 yards and play out to 100 yards.

I shoot handgun rapidfire and defensive drills at 7-15 meters. I also shot slow fire 25 meters.

Rifles I sight in at 36 meters, and shoot out to about 500.

I can't comment on long guns as I don't have any.

For handguns, I warm up with 20 rounds at 7 yards, then put the target to 25 yards and shoot there for a while. After a few targets at 25 yards I come forward to 15 yards. It's amazing how big the target looks at 15 after shooting for a while at 25 yards! :p

I continue practice with double-and-triple taps. If I'm in the mood I finish with a target or two at 3 yards (not a typo) to practice how fast I can bring the gun up and point shoot a target that close. I'm not allowed to draw from holster at my range, but I can start at close retention (which is the middle position of how I was trained to draw) and go forward from there.

Cheers,

Handguns- 7 to 15 yards. I would shoot at further distances if I were a better shot.

No rifles yet, but that will certainly change soon.

Rifles I usually shoot at 200-300 yards, handguns it's usually 25-50 feet. My local indoor pistol range is 50ft max and the outdoor rifle range is 300 max.

Handguns - 25yrds or less. Most work 15 or less.

Rifles - 90% of my long guns are sighted in for 100yrds. (the rest 75)
I shoot a fair amount from 100 - 150 and occasionally at 200 - 225.

Once a year I shoot 300 to 1000, just for fun and info. I can't hit squat consistantly out past 350 or so.

For normal practise, 25 yds. max. After I am through, I might move the targe to 100 yds just for fun. This is especially fun when shooting a .45 at 100 yds. I can touch one off, set the gun down and pick up the field glasses and am still able to see impact.:)

Rifle nowadays mostly 100 yds .... but in old days used to compete at 200 and 500 ... back then this was with Enfield MkIV's.

Handgun ...... again somewhat past tense! Back in 80's I used my then Redhawk for long range compo's at Bisley, in UK ..... we shot 100 and 300 yds.

The pic shows self in my ''flying machine'' as we called them :p ... a sorta semi portable rig providing a low seat and a gun support platform. Interestingly - whilst many guys used super hot mag loads ....... I did best with my 8.5 grns Red Dot shoving a 250 Keith SWC ... more of a 44 Spl load really - but it was way more accurate even if somewhat ''howitzer'' launch!

I used to shoot defensive handguns at 7 yards and 25 yards and NEVER at less than 7 yards. I think it is prudent to practice at least a few rounds at distances even shorter than 7 yards but generally speaking, I think if you can do what needs to be done at 10 to 15 yards, you're in good shape but drawing from concealment and quickly and as safely as possible and remembering to disengage all safeties is the most important aspect of preparing with your defensive arm.

I also enjoy shooting at 100 yards, mostly with a Dan Wesson 22 revolver.

For long guns, I guess 100 yards is the magic number. With scoped rifles, I usually try for the smallest groups with no more than about 5 seconds from taking it off my shoulder (as in carrying it in a sling) to taking the shot. I've not done much droping to a prone position kinda stuff... but I probably should. And with the AR, I've set up several 10" x 10" x 8" boxes on the flat end and varying distances from 15 to 50 yards and kind of shot them in rotation with reasonable quickness.

Distance-wise, I'm mainly limited by my local shooting range, since that's where I do most of my shooting. So for handguns, I shoot paper at 50 feet and a steel target at 50 yards (which is plenty challenging for me since I'm not very good). For rifles, I shoot at 50 yards to warm up, and then move it out to 100 yards, which is the max distance discounting the dedicated 200 yard lanes. Every so often, I make the drive to either an indoor range for pistols or another outdoor range that lets me shoot rifles at steel targets out to 600 yards (but some of those targets are hard to see for my old eyes :( ).

Rifle: 50yds+ depending on the range I'm at.

Full sized handgun: 10yds-25yds, 50-100yds if outdoors and not shooting paper.

Pocket/BUG: 5yds, give or take a few feet.

The pistol out to 50 yards (I see targets out to 50 at some USPSA matches).

The rifle out to 550 yards. Ballistic tables on the stock.

Back when my eyesight was good, I used to shoot pistols at 100, 200 and 300 yards, nowadays, usually 100 yards or less (mostly less  ). Centerfire rifles I usually shoot 100 or 200 yards, and longer, if the distance is available (all my CF rifles have scopes on them now  )

Handguns- contact distance to 50 yards, long guns- contact distance to serveral hundred yards, depending on the long gun.

Handgun: usually 25m, rarely 50m, would like to shoot at closer ranges, but as in trooper's case, the ranges I visit are not licensed for it.

Rifle: 50m/100m, would like to shoot at longer ranges, but ranges longer than 100m are a bit rare or restricted to the military.

357Mag,Out to 150 yards.
Rifle, out to 350 yards.
Shotgun,10-20 yards (its kinda short)
I've used my 357 for hunting for around 18 years since I got bored with
long guns. The longest shots I have to make around here are under 200 yards so the handgun makes it more challanging.
