At what distances do you shoot your: handgun, long gun?

This past Saturday I was shooting in a USPSA match. The final stage of the day required 12 shots at a target 35 yards away. That is the farthest I've shot in competition.

The same stage also required shooting strong hand only at 25yds and weak hand only at 15yds.

And it was a qualifier!:what:

Various distances depending on what range.
Pistol shooting .40sw:
The outdoor range pistol is set at 25 yards.
Indoor range from 7 feet to 20 feet.
Rifle .223-7.62X 39- 7.5X55:
AR-15 sight-in 50 to 100 yards,like shooting 300 yards,shot local competitions out to 500 yards.
SKS and Swiss K31,sight in at 50 shoot regularly at 100 yards.Have shot out 175-200 with the K31,pushed the SKS out to 150 yards.

Handguns - Glock G34 9mm: 3-15yds. indoors. 50 yds outdoors.

Rifle - Rem 7400 .30-06: Zero at 100yds (may switch to 200) shoot from 100 (rarely 50 unless I'm using the backup irons) out to 400yds accurately, range limit. Want to do more out to 1,000. My Shepherd scope makes quick-on-target work a snap at any range, especially farther out. Drop the 400 circle on something 18" at 400 yds, and BOOM <drop>.

I only have access to 100 yards max; there aren't that many long distance ranges in Upstate NY with a decent driving distance.

Pistols from 10 feet to 25 yards.
I've set up a G22 with a C-more and shoot 16" plates at 50 yards.
The rifles:SKS at 100 yards off hand and with bipod and scope.
The K31 100 yards off hand out to 300 yards on a rifle rest.
The AR's Bushy shorty carbine 50 yards out to 200 yards off hand.
The V-match fluted barrel 100 yards off hand out 600 yards in competitions.
Now waiting for my Barrett to arrive and shoot 50bmg starting at 600 out to 1000 yards.

Handgun: 7 yards
Rifle: 50 or 100 yards
I'm still learning to shoot, even after three years of ownership.

I just dialed in a .223 rifle for 200 yards with a couple of different hand loads. Hitting a target at that distance is very gratifying for me. I am shooting in the woods and propped up against a tree or a rock.

I have created a 40 grain and a 50 grain load that are ballistically very similar so that I don't have to screw around with a 4x scope on the rifle.

For pistols 10 yards average or less because I only practice with them for self defense. I never use the sights and either point shoot or shoot offhand.

LW Commander 25yds and under

M38 and M44, longest is 75yds. I don't do open sights real well

M700 Tupperware Special in 270. My current place in the woods is good to about 300 yds so that is the maximum. No fancy bipods or sandbags. Last week I rested the rifle on my range bag on top of a concrete block and away I went, shooting golf balls of the tee at 250yds.

SKS is in the mail. Should be here today. I am guessing maybe 100-150yds on a good day off a rest.

At an indoor range with a max of 25 yards, my pistol shooting is typically at 10 yards. No real reason other than the lighting seems better than at 7 or 15 and my eyes are getting old.

Since I haven't yet found an outdoor range in the DFW area (that won't whine about fmj's or AR's), I have been known to stretch the patience of the indoor range powers-that-be by airing out my .416 Rigby at 25 yards (just to see if it worked, you know). It's a very understanding bunch we have over at Mockingbird.

I'll likely get more serious about tracking down a proper range for the long guns soon.

"Hi. I'm Hawk and I shoot a Rigby at 25 yards."
I'm not reeaaaly addicted to handgun ranges only - at least I haven't dragged the 7mm RUM Sendero to the pistol range...yet. If I could focus the scope, but no...
