At what point will you start buying primers again?

If anyone is holding out for Winchester primers. I was told 2024 is when you might see some stock on the shelves. That is coming from Recobs target shop in Wisconsin.
I was also told by March 2023 by Midwestern Shooters Supply(Lomira), thru Winchester too, but it hasn't happened.
I did buy some Federal Match SPP at $100/brick only because I needed some and the Match primers were the only ones available. I expect them to be gone by today, except we are currently in a blizzard. I am holding off as long as I can for all others and it is helping. 209s are down to $65/brick.
I can't wait for Vista and Winchester to see they are missing the boat on wholesaling primers to their dealers.

This primer issue has become a joke. Supply chain is a whole nother joke. I believe some of these shortages are manufactured and in the case of components the shortages are political. But that is just my opinion with nothing to back it up.

Last time I purchased primers was last fall when I needed rifle primers to keep up with a league shooting event. At that time I paid like $84.00 k and then after adding taxes, shipping and Hazmat it came to almost $140.00k... My shooting habit has dropped way off.

Another way to think of it. When gas went up in the 4-5 dollar range. Did we stop driving ? No we didn't. We may have cut back some. But we still filled up our tanks. If you want to shoot. You pay the price.

That's what I say; 50 years ago we didn't protest we just paid more and also had the privilege of standing in line for it. ;)

I don't want my family to have to get rid of hazmat when I gone, so I got rid 200 more primers today. :)

I sold my F350 and bought a Subaru Outback. One of my wife’s friends has one and they were talking…. Y’all know the rest.
I have to admit, 35MPG is a lot better than 14.

My vibe gets 25 highway. 19 in town. It would be nice if it had select-able AWD/2WD. My Saturn gets 35 combined. But it needs to much work to pass inspection. My luck i'll fix it and the motor will fail. It's over 200k on it.

Right now. Especially if you can use them right away.

What makes anyone think they will go down from where they are at now?

The way the Fed bails out SanFran millionaires with deposits way over the fdic insured limit, which sets a precedent, inflation might re accelerate. There will surely be more banks to print money for. So yea primers might not come down from where we are now.

I didn’t anticipate how my shooting habits would change when I started casting and loading for 300 Blackout. I have 10k small pistol primers that I wish I could convert to small rifle. Maybe someone local might want to work a trade. I just started burning thru SRP a lot faster than I expected.

Same with LPP: I stocked up after the Sandy Hook scare but now I don’t shoot nearly as much 45 as I did. I guess it’s time to break out the 1911 again :)

I would argue that if you could replace your F350 with a Subaru then you really didn’t need an F350 to begin with. Unless you were hauling heavy equipment or a giant truck camper, of course.

I hope to be able stock up when they drop below $50, but we’ll see. The 2000 SA primers I got on the $67 deal from Norma are working out, so that will keep me busy for awhile. It’s nice to see specials like that putting a bit of pressure on the other manufacturers.
As others have said, I don’t believe that the higher materials costs have made a 300% difference.
But I am running low on LPP - - -

I bought 10,000 of the Servicios small pistol primers that Norma had for $60 per 1,000 a month or two back. With free shipping and hazmat, that has been the cheapest I’ve found in a while. I’d like to see them for less than $50 per 1,000 out the door before I will really stock up.

I have bought some of the primed .38 Special and .380 ACP brass that American Reloading has had for 25% off with free shipping and hazmat per 1,000 rounds. They show up at my door at less than $100 per bag. The .380 brass is 85% Dakota, which comes from Florida, and truly appears to be unfired. I’m happy with this as I don’t shoot these very often.
I just got 200 primed 45 Colt cases from American Reloading this week! Cost 89.99 with free shipping! Sure beats $70/50ct ammo at Academy!

I want to reload and shoot, so I buy them when I can. I still have almost 10K SPP and 4k LPP on the shelf (at top and lower left) along with a couple thousand rifle in small and large, but I still buy when I find as good a deal as possible.

Stay safe.

I'm trying out some of the Ginex in a few weeks to see how they are compared to my CCI and WLR primers.
Are ginex primers as good as domestic? I think fiocchi are
I only load for handguns so I only track SPP and LPP.

The usual primers I use are CCI and Federal. I had enough bad experiences with Remington and Winchester that I don't bother with them at all....certainly not when I cold buy Federal Match for $35/k. I had a few thousand and didn't feel a need to restock when the prices went over $100/k

I found Genix primers a while back and they have proven excellent. They are a bit easier to set off than CCI but not quite as easy as Federal. So now Genix has replace CCI and I'm only using my Federal for revolvers.

Genix are metric primers so they are slightly larger in diameter, but I haven't had any issues seating them completely using my bench priming tools. The Genix nickle primers are softer than their brass ones...so I use the nickled ones for striker pistols and the brass ones for hammer fired pistols.

I got my last 10k for $67/k...and that included shipping and HazMat. If the price falls below $60/k, I'll likely seriously consider stocking up. I think that price, including shipping and HazMat will be the "new normal"

I'm not sure where I'm going to put another 50k primers, but at least they take less room than Federal primers. I've got 30k in less space than 10k Federal

I have been able to find primers on GB for about .20 each. I called the local gun shop and they are getting some deliveries of mostly CCI but he said impossible to get Winchester because they decided to stop selling to shops. Primers at stores are about .15 each.

I think that’s my price point, $50/1,000.

For large rifle, small pistol and small rifle, the price needs to get south of $50/1,000, then I’ll stock up.

But that’ll be an investment for the kids cause I have enough to keep me running the rest of my life.

209s? Kinda in the market. I think I have 7,000 and change left but I burned through at least 3,000 last year. Another 5,000 would make me comfortable. 10,000 would put my worries to rest for a few years.

I think 9mm, .40 and .224 projectiles is truly what I should focus on.
