ATF brace rule is out

I don’t want an SBR that can’t be treated under my CCW permit or the hassle of notifying the ATF crossing stated lines. Not to mention their changing of the rules either is costing me money in the form of throwing away my brace and reconfiguring my buffer tube or losing a privacy in the form of registering my firearm. It’s a matter of principle for me. But to each their own.

I’ve been known to cut off my nose in spite of my face for principles, but a clear conscious is worth it to me.

Ive already decided I’m reconfiguring my pistol AR’s to be “compliant,” for this round of spin the wheel ATF interpretations. I’ll catch everyone else on the next one.

My questioning above is in particular to how are they going to view pistol AR’s going forward based on wha

225 posts and no clear interpretation of the ruling has been presented.
ATF should be the name of a convenience store not a government agency.

Yeah, but a lot of people think they know. I bet only a few are attorneys. And even if they were they probably have never defended anyone being prosecuted for a NFA violation. As with any legal advice presented on a public forum, it's worth exactly what you paid for it. Even some who hold an FFL are giving us advice which seems a bit like my neighbor who is a FAA electronics tech telling me which airports/airlines to avoid. I'm sure he knows what goes on where he works but he isn't involved with anything the FAA might be doing to bring an airline or airport into compliance with the regulations...except where he works. That's way above his pay grade.

I predict nobody that applies gets their free stamp in under a year, possibly two years or not at all.

Even more pessimistic: BATF will have to have funding for more employees and computers to manage the influx, then after they have issued all those "free stamps" they will have to dream up new regulations to keep the larger staff occupied.

They supposedly hired 20 people to process forms and they claim this new rule will not impact current wait times.
that remains to be seen though.

Oh good. 20 people in 86 working days only works out to about 5,800 to 23,000 applications per person per day if all of them were registered. I'm sure there won't be any issues!

Right, which is always my thought when somebody says the courts will block repressive laws.
In this case, waiting to see would put you in violation for those years... less 4 months.

If it's anything like the IRS you could be waiting a long time. Last year they waived the penalties for filing after the deadline because they were about 5 months behind on reviewing what people filed before the deadline.

I'm not dealing with the ATF so I'm wishing everyone the best of luck if you are.

There are threads on this topic in Legal, NFA and General Discussion. Those will be the focal point for this topic going forward.
