Point is, to me not worth the scrutiny for zero gain. Think about the trouble if the LEO isn't sure about the configuration and something we're to happen after he let the suspect and weapon walk free, that man's life could be ruined. I'm the strongest supporter of the second amendment you'll ever find, I don't think that any weapon should be outlawed for the law abiding but that's not the point, there are laws governing these things and having a jar full of white powder labeled anthrax even if it's flour will draw scrutiny. Having a standard AR with 3 position selector and labeled m16 is just asking for it. No, it's not illegal and shouldn't be but if the rifle in question is found in your possession it would be irresponsible for an officer not to raise an eyebrow. Maybe someday we can regain our lost rights back and I hope we do, but for now why deal with the hassle ? Nothing would come of it and it would just waste your and their time while it gets figured out. Everyone can do as they please, I for one would not bother with a fake goofy mismarked rifle.
