A few weeks ago I did a review of my new 7.62 MK12, it only had irons then. Well I mounted a Mueller 4-16x mil-dot and a Sightmark mini red dot. (both budget scopes) For the Mueller I used a ADM QD mount on YHM risers, and for the sightmark I used a YHM offset rail.
The Mueller arrived with a foreign object or imperfection (probably optic grease) in the lower left quadrant of the glass. I mounted it anyway to see how it would shoot and see if I should return it for the same scope or get a different brand. I think I will give Mueller a chance to make it right because the scope is pretty clear and held zero after 140 rounds of 308.
The Sightmark arrived in a nice box with adjustment tools and appeared of very high quality for "cheap chinese junk". I purchased it with the idea that I would upgrade later to the Burris, but after using the Sightmark I am impressed. It worked really well and held zero, it was also brighter than expected during the bright NM sun today.
I used 168 grain Federal BTHP match to sight in the Mueller at 100 yards. The rifle and scope were grouping .75inches at best and 2 inches at the worst. But the average was 1.5 inches at 100 yards. After getting comfortable with the scope and rifle and learning the mils I started to shoot at 10x10 steel targets at 300 yards. The rifle would consistently hit steel using 1 mil up and 3 mils over on the Mueller.
For sighting in the Sightmark I used 147 grain Winchester M80 ball ammunition at 50 yards. The little reddot took some getting used to being in the offset position, but once I figured out good positioning of the rifle it worked real well and efficiently. The only downside to the offset position is the rifle creates a blind spot on the opposite side of the mount. The chinese holosight repeatedly held 2 inch groups at the 50 yard line.
