Hi,

anyone checker the backstrap on an HK P7?

I wear this gun often in 5.11 'holster' shirts thanks to it's narrow width and no chance of it going off via insertion (vs other "no external safety" guns, IMO).

the backstrap now is showing signs of rust, thanks to it not being the same stainless as the slide, and having a bit of texturing/wear.

So, I'm considering NP3+ and in my reading, folks are a sometimes finding it very slick, especially when sweaty. the NP3+ would seem to be what i want on this gun and my mags to protect from summer arm-pit sweat.

I see the 1911's with their checked backstraps and had me wondering, can the P7's backstrap be checkered?

A stainless P7 slide? ICBW, but I don't think there ever was such a thing.

My EDC P7 is NP3'd, and I don't find the slight slickness of the finish to be any hindrance at all.

The backstrap is metal so it could be checkered, but I would imagine that the factory texturing would have to polished smooth first.

It sounds like an interesting project, though, and I would like to see pictures if you do it. If you haven't already, ask the question at HKPro.com and the Cult of the P7, lots of folks at those two sites with more P7 expertise than me.

Looks good !

How much did that run? Any problems or issues with it?

the slides have never been made from stainless steel. factory slides were either blued or nickeled.

i've seen more P7 refinished in Hard Chrome then NP-3 (which is electroless nickel w/teflon). i think the HC looks better (cleaner). if i wanted to go the electroless nickel route, i'd lean heavily toward CCR...better work quality and CS
