Ballistic gel testing for rifle ammo

Ballistic gel testing is a pretty big thing for pistol calibers with many people saying the bullet should go 12" to 18" deep. There doesn't seem to be much gel testing for rifle ammunition along with opinions about how far a bullet should penetrate for various types of game. Any reason why?

There is plenty out there if you take the time and know where to look. Gary Roberts has done a lot. The Army does work with military calibers. Some of the bullet companies publish test results. Then there is BrassFetcher.
