Does anyone have any experience with these rifles? I think I want one. I lost my deer lease and am having to hunt where my shots are 200 yds. or more. Am looking for something that "if I can see hair thru my scope, I can hit it". Would prefer 257 Weatherby, but can not find one in a BAR.

Looks like they were made in the early-mid 1990's, so there may be a few out there for sale. Since they're rare they will probably bring a premium price. I've certainly never seen one... but sorta wondering why a 7mm Rem Mag BAR wouldn't do pretty much the same thing you are asking for at a much lower cost to get into the gun and the ammo..:)

I have shot a BAR. in .270 Wthby. The thing was surprisingly accurate. I am not a BAR fan but that one was a very nice and accurate rifle.

I think the 7 mag would be better with way cheaper ammo, gave my boy one this year and he took a good buck!

The Weatherby is a faster flatter shooting round than the 7mm Rem. In 7mm, I prefer the Weatherby round. I hunted with a Weatherby when I was stationed in Germany (1965) and appreciated it's capabilities. I thought about re chambering a BAR 7MM Rem to Weatherby but have no clue how that would work. I have recently seen 2 BARs in 270 Weatherby on the net. They did not remain there long enough for me to engage in a long thought process. At my age I will probably not go through more than 2 boxes of cartridges so I do not consider ammo costs as prohibitive. I am interested in the BAR as a means of reducing recoil in a magnum cartridge. Bolt actions seem to recoil a bunch.

The difference between the 7mmRemMag and .270wby isn't as much as you think.
Factory velocities with the .270wby are quoted from a 26"bbl. The 7mmMag, from a 24"bbl. BOTH BOLT ACTIONS. The BAR has a 24"bbl, so figure 125-150fps slower than quoted ballistics. Puts the 150gr .270wby right in there with the 7mmRem 150gr loads.

The .270wby shares the same case with the .257wby.
2/3rds of my .257wby brass is reformed from 7mmRemMag. Only difference is the necks are about a tenth of an inch short.
(CAUTION!!! Remington, Federal brass hold 3-4gr less powder than Norma/Weatherby cases. Explains differences in loading manuals for the Weatherby cartridges).
DON'T USE DATA FOR WEATHERBY cases in REMINGTON OR FEDERAL cases. You'll get pierced primers and stiff extraction at STARTING loads.
BTDT
Not trying to discourage the OP. Just stating that I would get the 7mmRemMag and put a muzzle break on it if recoil is an issue. Muzzle blast is a whole different issue!

Ya, the .270 Whby is a fire-spitter that really does sling it's bullet fast and flat, and the BAR is a really nice gun. (I've always wanted one in .338...just because, I guess!) I love my .270 Winchester, so I can imagine a bit more speed would flatten trajectory even more for those long shots across a valley. I am not the 'King-of-Long-Range-Shooting', so my shots are kept under 300 yds max. For me the .270 Win does all I can ask of it.

I have a German Mark V in .300 Whby my Dad gave me, and that thing kicks like an angry mule with 180gr and heavier bullets. I haven't had a need to take it hunting, but I could tote it out in the field if the need arose.

Finding a BAR in .270 Whby is going to be tough...and pricy...but I if you're patient enough and in the right spot at the right time one will fall into your lap. If you're on a time schedule (or a budget) then the 7mm Rem BAR would fit the bill and do 90-95% of what the .270 Whby will.

Good luck with your quest...

Here's one available. There's no buy it now option so you'd have to bid on it.
Pretty pricey.
I am considering a .270 WSM myself. Don't need it, just want it. Not in a BAR though.

Thanks, I figured this guy would have one at some point. He is awfully proud of it. I found one for 700, scoped and shipped. The stock had been cut to 13". Did not appear to be abused. I can slip a recoil pad on and use in summer and use as is in winter with lots of clothes. Had that problem this year when weather changed during deer season. Hope I am successful in obtaining it.

Merry Xmas
I had a Weatherby 270 Mag for elk hunting & used it for deer. I know it wasn't a regular 270.
I long range is what you want to cover , it was supposed to be the max.
No problem at 350 + yards but up close it would destroy a whitetail.
Used it here at home on my 300 yard range & shot some deer with it in those same lanes.
I thought it was the ultimate long range rifle till I started using a 7 Rem Mag instead. I can reload
it easier & it shoots tighter.
A 270 could never match it on knock down & it doesn't destroy meat if you know not to shoot thru
the shoulders, shoot just behind them or in the neck. [ 270 is still a good caliber ]
However if you are like me & you want a BAR , you will still want one even if you get something else.

Nice.
That sounds like a fantastic buy.
Hope you get it.
We will, of course, expect pictures if and when you do. ;)

I own a 270 Wby, a 7mm Rem Mag, & a 7mm Wby all in different bolt guns. I'm not really sure what you mean about reloading the 7mm Rem Mag being easier?

As for accuracy, this has to do with the shooter, specific rifle, and ammunition. It has nothing to do with the cartridge design itself.

All 3 cartridges are fantastic and very similar in ballistics and dimensions. If you find a shooter in any of those chamberings, that's really all that matters, especially if you handload. That said, I do understand the quest for a specific chambering in a specific firearm. If its something you really want, do it!

The Remington 7mm Mag cases never crush on me but with the steep shoulder of the 270 Wby Mag well I just tried everything & it always
had 1 or 2 go wrong & crush out of 100 just a statement about my inabilities not a slap at Weatherby.

I've never had the first solitary problem with case crushing on a .270 Weatherby. I load hundreds of them a year. You might want to consider getting a new sizing die.

Can't speak to the .270 Wby, but I've had a BAR in .300 Win mag for 25 years. Been great, plenty accurate and never missed a beat. You won't be disappointed in the rifle.
