Has anyone run the TSX at a moderate velocity out of say a 30-06?? I want to try the reduced loads for H4895 that Hodgdon recommends and I want to use the 130gr TSX outta my 30-06 and I want to know if it will expand at say 200 yards with a muzzle velocity of 2500fps?

Barnes TSX bullets are wonderful...at proper velocity. Take one, put it in a vise, and start tapping the point with a hammer - you'll be surprised ow much it takes to make the HP start its deformation.

For reduced velocity I'd stick with lead.

I called Barnes the other day as I was building reduced 308 loads for my wife to hunt with. The bullet in question was a 130g tipped X (same as yours), and I was told the round would expand as low as 1800 fps.

If the Barnes guy I talked to is right, you should be fine. Also, I built some hornady 130g soft point rounds for practice (MUCH cheaper) and found they shot to the same POI with 37.5g H4895 from the little Remington Model 7. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention, I believe the tipped bullet expands a bit faster so that might be a better bet for you to try.

I dont think you will have any issues with a reduced load. I harvested a large doe at about 100 yards last year with a 120g 6.5mm TTSX bullet, most likely loaded to a slow 2250-2300 fps. Just my guess. This was out of an 18" tube, and the data i used was shot from a 24" tube and they state about 2500fps from it. Either way, it was not fast at all. The bullet performed outstandingly! Complete pass through, and very very devastating. Barnes is now my go to hunting round. Love them.
