I'm trying to remove the barrel band sling swivel from my Marlin 336, but I'm not sure how to. I acquired it used and I'm not sure how it was put on. It doesn't look like any other barrel band sling swivel I've ever seen. It appears to use a set screw-like fastener to keep the two halves together. I've considered trying to tap the screw with a brass punch to loosen it up, but wanted to check to see if anyone else has any ideas first.

Use a propane torch to heat it up. Then give it some taps with a brass hammer when the silver solder starts to flow out from under the ring. If you plan on placing it back on then give it a light witness mark with a hammer and chisel to get it back to the same exact spot before removal. Just remember to tin the parts with the solder when putting it back into place. Don't worry the barrel won't be harmed as long as you don't get it too hot. The silver solder has a melting point at about 425*. Clean up the area and cold blue touch up as needed.

Looks like a Chicago screw (male + female parts).....slot on one side, none on the other? Might need to fabricate a right angle spanner type tool.View attachment 1130082 View attachment 1130083 View attachment 1130084 View attachment 1130085
I had a hard time finding that tool locally. I decided to improvise and I used a brass punch to loosen it up with the magazine tube chucked up in my vice. Worked great and didn't damage any of the finish. I'm lucky that it wasn't on too tight. Thanks for the help!
