I have a pietta 1858 brasser in .44 with an eight inch barrel. Would like it to be a bit shorter. There are frames on GB, a bit pricey though and if I wanted a steel frame I would have gotten one to begin with. So, do I take the chance and swap out barrels/loading lever (that will only bring me down to 6.5") or does anyone think it would be okay to cut it down to be around 3-4" and lose functionality of the loading lever? I have seen this done with colts but never a Remington... Any thoughts, ideas are welcome.

I see no reason not to if that's what floats your boat and you're willing to lose the loading lever function.
