I am soon to be 21 and after looking at the way I generally dress I have decided that IWB carry will be a major method that I utilize. However something has dawned on me. When I step into a "bathroom stall" as my pants lay on the floor it would possibly expose my firearm.
How do most people deal with this? I would hesitate to constantly take it off every time I step into a stall because it seems inevitable that eventually I would run the risk of leaving it somewhere.
As anybody ever had any issue with someone else noticing your gun when its on your pants on the floor?

I take mine out of the holster, and place it on top of the water tank (if there is one) or similar flat, even surface. Wouldn't let that go to the floor where it's visible or grab-able. When you're done taking care of business, just make sure you do a 360 in the stall to make sure you're not forgetting anything.

You could get the quick detachable type holster and keep the gun and holster in your lap as you do your business.

Also allows you to keep your gun handy if you need it.

Finding a place to hold it while you perform paperwork may be difficult tho.

I read this here and I still think it's one of the best ways.
Take your firearm out of its holster, and put it in your pants between your legs.
It's there if you need it and you sure can't forget it. :)

I don't drop my waistband to the floor. My waistband/belt/holster/gun stay ABOVE my knees and I rehook my belt (loosely) so the weight of the gun won't make it go below the level of the side wall of the stall.
I don't like the thought of removing my gun and placing it anywhere that I have even a 1% chance of forgetting it.

I am one of those folks that only drop the duece at home... Even when I was a little guy (in my twenties) my internal system had locked on to a regular routine. I drop the kids off at the pool in the morning... before the shower and shave... and shortly after coming home from the job, whenever that may be...

Sorry about walking so close to the TMI line!

You could wear boots - they help to keep your pants from hitting the ground. The pants-at-the-knees trick seems to work - also keeps your holster out of view.

I generally don't carry , but I always have a blackberry and a leatherman on my belt. The key is to not drop it to the floor. Pull it down to expose but keep it right above the knees. I usually just open my legs a little more to tension the waistband and go to town.

I also second the "put it inside the pants" idea rather than on a toilet. I have lost several PDA's in the past by putting them down in the bathroom.

Good luck!

+1 on the pants not past the knees, with the gun inside them. It can be a little tricky when standing, and getting the pants back up a fastened, but it's the best control over your firearm. You can practice this at home, you know.

i dont see why you would let your pants drop to the nasty public bathroom floor even if you DIDNT have a gun.

Handicap stalls are good for this too, because there is generally a sink inside the stall right next to the toilet, which is a safe and handy place to put your gun. The gun is right there when you wash your hands, so it would be kind of hard to forget it.

IIRC, the late, great, Jeff Cooper advised doing everything seated, even if a guy, and wearing Jockey shorts. That way you never turn your back on anyone, and having rested your piece in the crotch of your shorts, it's very handy if necessary and quite obvious if you forget it while re-dressing.

Placing your gun on the tank of the toilet or in your lap is great until it falls into the actual toilet basin:eek: I also don't like the thought of dropping my pants all the way down onto the ground where you don't know if people missed (most likely did).

I NEVER 'drop the deuce' as Notch put it when I'm packin, so problems in the stall don't occur. Holding it keeps a sharp edge on things.

Exactly! I do this at home as well...

Why the heck do you need to drop them all the way to the floor...
