Battle for Virginia: Governor & Every Seat in the House Up For Grabs

I mean dems will sweep most of nova regardless. If we can keep Richmond and VA Beach area there is some hope. But it’s still an uphill battle. Gotta hold the rest of the state as well as take a few of the fringe counties around nova that are not as solid in dem control.

also if we can make big enough dent there are some dems that are not staunchly anti gun like John Edward’s from Roanoke. Might be able to work with them on some compromises to get some stuff we want.

but it’s an uphill battle regardless, but not impossible.

My own state senator (a Democrat) was one of those who killed the proposed assault weapon ban last year. So the gun issue does not break cleanly along party lines.

This is true; I had a Democrat congressman for years who was strong supporter of 2a; he even supported our Friends of NRA committee. Unfortunately his replacement is exact opposite. The party is no longer the same as it was even 20 years ago and are expert in applying pressure to those individuals who do not toe the mark.

But, to get this back on track before it is shut down, we must all do our homework and learn where our elected officials stand on issues important to us, and if they are subject to cave under pressure before awarding them our votes/$$.

can enough $$$ & support from our side

I agree that money is very powerful in an election, but getting out and working door to door and group to group is the most effective way to get votes for any side. Looking someone in the eye and asking them to please help is a huge motivator.

As it turned out, the race was not fought on gun control. I got my yellow postcard from the NRA, and although they made endorsements for Lt. Governor and Attorney General, they were silent on the marquee Governor's race. This surprised me.

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that NRA did nor endorse Youngkin because he did not fill out their questionnaire. Pretty hard to endorse someone without any guidance from the candidate.

That said, we all know where McAuliffe stands on the subject.

The good news is Youngkin has gained the lead in latest polls, making getting out the gun owners vote all the more important.

I drove out to Charlottesville yesterday to visit my uncle and sight in my new rem700 and as soon as I got out of NOVA I saw Youngkin signs on full display everywhere people had out along 29. There seems to be momentum building. The real question now is can we capitalize on that momentum and turn it into voter turnout?

this is where those $$$ can make a big difference! Once people are already motivated keeping the hype up and reminding they to actually vote. All the support in the world dose nothing if your supporters stay home on Election Day!

It takes both $$ and phone calls/door knocking to get out the vote. Too late for $$ today, calling friends/family who can vote in this election is about all that will help turn out the vote at this late date.

That's ostensibly what happened. However, I think I can tell you what really happened. Youngkin figured he already had the gun-rights supporters in the bag. The election was going to be decided by peeling off a few percentages in the NoVa suburbs. That's why Youngkin stressed the education issue (anti-CRT, etc.), hoping to appeal to the soccer moms. Those are the very same soccer moms that are antigun. So Youngkin had to be quiet on guns, and the NRA, knowing this, gave him a pass.

Even phone calls. Arizona, Idaho, and another R state I forget made phone banks for the R slate.
