If you've been curious about Bear Creek Arsenal's CHF barrels, but couldn't bring yourself to pull the trigger at nearly $300, Gorilla Machining is blowing them out at about $120 each.

20 inch A2 barrel $119.99

16 inch 7.62x39 HBAR $109.99

I ordered both, which gave me free shipping (and no tax) and used discount code 5off19
Brought the total to $219 shipped.

Even if they're MOM instead of MOA, at that price, seemed like worth rolling the dice. Won't be building them out for a while, but seemed like a deal worth sharing!

Update:
Delivery came yesterday. The 20 inch is really nicely finished. The crown has a slight bevel for a target-ish crown. Dimpled for a gas block before it was nitrided, which is a really nice touch, avoiding a bit of unfinished steel where rust could theoretically get a toe hold. Well worth the $110.

Now the bad. They shipped me a 16 inch M4 Profile 556 barrel instead of the 16 inch 7.62x39 HBAR. I have zero use for an M4 Profile barrel. I have an email in to Gorilla Machining CS inquiring about getting me the product I ordered. I'll update with how that goes...

Took about a week of back and forth emailing, but they sent me a return label for the M4 Profile barrel. USPS took 2 weeks to get it back to them (it was lost in NJ for a week 🙄). Anyway, the 7.62x39 CHF HBAR arrived in my possession yesterday.

All the positive notes about the 20 inch A2 apply to this one as well. Getting both for less than BCA's on-website pricing for one was worth the mix-up and time. No hurry to build them out. Too many other (shooting) irons in the fire right now.

I will be very interested in your accuracy from the barrels.

Any pics ?
Haven't taken any yet. I'll do so on Monday when I put together a Reddit (I know) post on this whole experience. Again, won't be building them out for a while. Maybe not even in 2024. Too many other projects.

I fully understand having time to assm. AR's. Lol, I have had a 11'5" Mid length gas 5.56 for 2 weeks, and I haven't found the time to disassemble it , to measure the gas port 😒
I am in the same boat. Lots of irons in the fire.
Do you have a link to your Reddit thread ?
Please do post your results, even in the future , I have always been surprised BCA decided to sell CHF barrels.
That is a heckuva investment on BCA's end.

I'll share the pictures here when I post. So far, I've only posted about this here and on AK Files. It occurred to me yesterday this would make for a good Reddit thread. Nothing posted over there yet.

TFB had pretty good luck with an upper using the A2 Barrel.

704 Tactical had good things to say about their CHF Uppers in general. I prefer to roll my own.

The 7.62x39 will be a red dot gun with cowitnessed fixed irons. Haven't decided if the 20 inch is going to be irons only or will also have a cowitnessed Romeo4S. Depends on whether I decide I want another carry handle or not.

I might even do something like an Adams piston kit on one of them for giggles.

Thank you for the TFB link, I had not seen that one yet.

Happy New Year !

A whole year out on projects… wow. Y’all are a lot more caught up than I am. I’m hoping to finish getting a revolver back into firing condition this year. It got put on the injury list I think in 2014 so a full decade ago. It’s been that long since I had a dedicated 357. The tc hotshot barrel was kinda strange and I never warmed up to the sighting setup on it, so it went down the road without a ton of use.

I currently have 7 guns I haven’t fired and 2 contender barrels to figure out. One big thing with the 223 AI barrel is to make a chamber adapter or set of adapters for rimfire rounds, and possibly an adapter for 22tcm. Also want to thread that barrel at least for a bloop tube to send flash and blast downrange because at 14” it’s ridiculously loud.

I also bought all the stuff to build a cheapo copy of a Lee load all in 410 long enough ago that I lost a lot of it and used part of it for other projects.

Only a year out… that must be nice. Retired?

Looks like AR15Discounts.com has the BCA 20 inch 308 CHF barrels under their house brand "NBS".
They're currently on sale for $96. Shipping is $8.99.

BCA listing for comparison:

Yeah, for $105 shipped, I ordered one. I've been telling myself for a year I didn't need a 308 and for about 3 that I didn't want the complications of building an AR10.

Oh, well.

Looks like gorilla still has them and the same sale, really wished they had 18" or a 20 that was a little heavier. I'd like to put together a dmr ish upper someday cheap, got most ebpverthing but a barrel and bcg.

FINALLY finished building out the SPR build with the 18 inch CHF Nitride/Stainless Strike Fighter barrel I bought years back. I'll be doing a Reddit post on it sometime next week. I'll DM it to you. Shame those barrels are disco'd.

They have 16" CHF 1:7 barrel for $110 - https://www.gorillamachining.com/BE...Length-Gas-System--Black-Nitride-_p_1224.html

BTW, TFB review/range test of BCA 16" CHF - https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2024/03/18/bca-bc-15-16-inch-review/

When I saw review for BCA cold hammer forged 20" upper produce 1-1.2 MOA groups at 500 yards, I was intrigued - https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2023/12/15/bear-creek-arsenal-bc-15-side-charger-review/

That's a good deal two, but really want 18" or longer. I would like to put together a more premium carbine upper but want to use a chrome lined barrel for that.

That would do, I don't think I've used anything from kak before. The was my shaw 6 arc shoots has me thinking about another of there stainless barrels, tho I'd kinda would like it nitrated. Maybe on there next sale I'll see about getting a 18"
They should have 15% off around Memorial day. They have a 16 inch medium contour CHF Nitrided Stainless barrel I want to build a RECCE around.
