BDU thigh pocket holster?

I've taken to wearing BDU-style pants (specifically, the Tru-Spec STU brand) at work for their durability and comfort, and was wondering if anyone had seen a holster that could be mounted in the thigh pocket.

I've been wanting to get a snubbie for awhile, stag grips and all, but I can't see how I can fit one in the front pocket as they are small and tight. On the STU thigh pockets, Tru-Spec uses velcro instead of buttons so access is quicker, relatively, than on milspec BDU's, and there is plenty of room for a holster and good-sized pistol.

What I was thinking, was to buy one of those cheap nylon floppy holsters and velcro it to the inside leg. With a pull-through retention strap, you should be able to hold the weapon firmly in position but not so firmly that you couldn't break the snap.

Any thoughts? Sound like a good idea? I still haven't decided on the pistol, except that it will be stainless, no locks, and chambered for .357 magnum.

Sew a sheet of velcro in your pocket, and attach one of those velcro-backed holsters designed for the Royal Robbins vests?

Sounds like we're thinking on the same wavelength, Skunk. My only concern is it seems that nobody has tried this before....or didn't have very good luck with it.

Wouldn't be the fastest draw on record, but an ankle rig is out due to high boots and bloused pants. The pocket organizer is an option, but it would seem to add a lot of weight and mass to the pocket, negating natural drape of the material.

A cheapo holster and some velcro....oh, the possibilities!

Also depends how heavy your gun is and how big the pocket is. I'm guessing it'll be flopping around quite a bit. I thought about this before, crosses my mind like lots of ideas....so has Dave Brown..

here's the vest thing, but with Kydex. Eagle is making them with nylon.


Same thing here but mounted to a sheet of velcro in the car.


Guy has the right ideas, not sure if it'll fit in a cargo pocket though.

Thanks for the pics, Skunk. That's definitely a cool rig and would work perfectly in a cargo pocket....if I could bring myself to buy a glock I was actually thinking of a stainless, stag-handled snubnose revolver. Those titanium ones are nice, but they don't have the history of more traditional wheelies.

I was thinking I could sew a small piece of velcro to the inside of the pocket, on the leg itself, and hold a soft holster just like they do on a RR vest.

As to pocket volume, the STU pockets are big. I bet I could get two flash-bangs and a fragmentation grenade in one of them. Tons of cargo space, unlike the 5.11 pants, and the closure flap isn't sew down on the ends so you have complete access. I just got three more pair in the mail today and can't wait to find a pistol to match.

Funny you should mention BDU's and pocket carry. Just this weekend a buddy and mine where "camping" and tried the same thing. He had a titanium Taurus in a Uncle Mikes holster in his cargo pocket and I had a Ruger SP101 in a Krammer pocket holster in my right front pocket. He had very little problems the only problem I had was that the stainless gun was a bit heavy and they grip was a bit long. But no one else noticed and it went fine. Of course I am now in the market for a lightweight revolver for pocket carry.

Yeah right. The slide would be hardchromed at the very least. In all fairness I like Glocks a lot, but not enough to buy one.

Sometimes I carry my Glock 27 in my Royal Robbins pants pockets... Fits well, i've thought about assembling some holster together for the pocket...

thats one place I like to put the Keltec P32, because its lighter, so it doesn't feel like your wearing bricks in your thigh pockets...
