Be a "hoarder" with me!

I started shooting just before the first ammo shortage in '09, and learned real quick how fast the shelves will empty and not replenish for years.

So I vowed to stock up on all sorts of calibers, including .22, so I was sitting pretty good when the '13 Banic hit.
And when you stock up ahead of time your stockpile looks like this...

That's awesome. :D

1911 guy said: "I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?"

I bought a large lapel button from a street vendor outside the Hollywood Bowl the night before I left for Vietnam. It said:

Where is Lee Harvey Oswald Now That We Really Need Him?

I wish I hadn't of lost that button. I might be wearing at around town today.

People posting their ammo hoa... supply.... is a good thing. It reminds us that if you think ahead, you will not be caught in the next shortage. During times of plenty, why post? You assume that everyone how gives a darned about shooting is doing the same thing. I assume that RIGHT NOW everyone is stocking up on mags and ammo and guns... prices haven't better in three years! But if another Sandy Hook happened tomorrow, you can bet that there will be people who are reading this very post who will complain about being caught off guard, who will call other people's ammo supply a "hoard", and who will propose all kind of anti-capitalist, anti-gun ownership remedies to relieve their shortage situation. Get over it. Except for 22lr, the time is RIGHT NOW.

Powder, bullets and 22 LR. I buy any I can find. I have about a 100 year supply of powder now and the primers to match. Plenty of bullets in my main calibers. 22 LR is approaching a two year supply and I intend to take that to 10 years IF prices come down.
I am prepared to reload for myself and a couple of buddies if/when the next panic comes along. I also want to give 22 to any of my friends that need it.
I now own 17 9mm pistols and two rifles so if anything breaks I have a backup.
Plenty of 22 LR and 22 mag pistols and rifles.

This thread needs more pics...

That's for 6 calibers. And this IS a thread about HOARDING...er, stockpiling ammo, so anyone getting upset about a picture says they were likely left empty handed when the bottom fell out of the ammo market.

Yes I'm proud to have the fore sight to stock up when the shelves were full.

Accumulating a stockpile of various calibers over the years in not hoarding. Just good planning. Time has proven many to be wise. Besides, ammo is money.

I agree that there's a big difference between planning and hoarding. It's my responsibility as a good citizen, husband, and father to be prepared. I'm not talking about a stupid zombie apocalypse, but having lived near the TX gulf coast for 30 hurricane seasons you should be prepared. Even though I'm now in the central TX hill country it's still important. Being prepared goes beyond ammo and should include food and water. As for ammo I shoot both for fun and in competition so I simply try and maintain 3000 rounds for each of the calibers (9mm, .45, .22, .380, .38/.357, and .223) I shoot.

And you're proud of this? You must be, given your posting.

I remember back a few years ago, people were posting photos of their ammo hoards as if they were proud of them. Almost as if they were their children or a treasured pet. Keep in mind they didn't post these photos when supply/demand was normal. They posted the photos once they had went on a buying spree, helping to accelerate the shortages.

That mindset no doubt exacerbates supply/demand issues. Sad reality.

At this point I would be proud of this. I make no bones about my preparations. HammBeer's picture doesn't come close to the amount of 22 ammo I have unless those are 500 round bricks. Mine was all purchased prior to the Obama shortage. Back then, I bought ammo every week and shot a couple times a month. I have purchased zero 22 ammo since the shortage hit.

Why wouldn't he be proud of it? If he wants to go shoot a few hundred rounds of 22 he can do it without having to take the walk of shame at Wally World or pay an exorbitant price at the LGS. He also doesn't have to complain and whine on internet forums about some mythological "shortage".

Oh geez, not another person denying reality

Warp, the shortage is only in cheap and readily available 22 LR. I can go online right now and buy 20k rounds of 22 LR and have it delivered in 2 days. If the definition of shortage is that I can't go to Walmart and buy all I want then yes, we have a shortage. If the definition is that it is not readily available then no, we do not have a shortage.
There is a shortage of 22 ammo as it existed in 2011. There is also a shortage of beef, pork and chicken as it existed in 2011. It's there but times have changed. Hopefully it is a short term change.

Hammsbeer you really need to work on your organizational skills. I have my 22 LR and 9mm stored in 15 or so ammo cans but I can never get them to stack up that purty.

Large box bottom right. Got a weight on that thing?
I have a couple of the big cans filled with loose 9mm and they are darned near impossible to lift! I am slowly going to the smaller cans for loose ammo because most of the packaged ammo takes up too much space. Putting it in zip bags helps but those big cans hold a LOT of pistol or 22 ammo.

It's not hoarding when there is plenty to go around. It's not hoarding when you don't pay scalper's prices or become a scalper.
