I never bought any gun from HK...

Well, friday, at the Lausanne Gunshow, I changed my mind when I saw this USP at a very good price, second hand from Swiss Police (St Gallen)..

I am very impressed with the size of the pistol, and it fits my hand perfectly- I like the tritium sights, and after having bought only compact modern pistols I am satisfied with this new full size equalizer !!!
It's like new (maybe 300 rounds fired)

I know, I am sorry, I bought this gun from a brand which I hate the policy, but sometimes you have to compromise with your budget and the availability ;)

If you’re disgusted with yourself to the point of wanting to give it away I will gladly pay the transfer fee. Just kidding, I feel the same about the Ruger products I have/like with Bill Rugers policies. A USP is on my list but low priority right now. Looks brand new, hope it shoots well.

What is the issue with HK?

You know, because of the stupid german laws, they don't sell to civilians their LE/military line of products, even if it's semi auto-only..

You don't get any 416 or 417 but instead a stupid MR223 or MR308 which cannot be fitted with any standard lowers etc etc..

to me, HK feels their products don't belong to us, but only to government entities.. and I hate that.

but that USP still feels good !

What do the other inscriptions on the slide mean? ("stadtpolizei" - which I am guessing means "state police" - and another I cannot quite make out.) Is this a former police issue gun?

Very nice pistol. I've owned a couple pieces of the USP line-up in the past, great pistols. Over the years many new shooters I've taken out have found the full size USP 9 to be a great learning platform.

Reading is fundamental.

St-Gallen is a Swiss Canton ( Switzerland is a confederation of Cantons..)

Most Swiss Polices sell their guns into the civilian market when they change.. and you can get them at very good prices..

somebody talked about how expensive HK usually is (true).

I paid this one 850$ with 2 mags..

You may think it's expensive.. as a comparison, a new glock 17 (gen3, not latest one with the new grip) cost 850$ (1 swiss franc = 1$) as well, and you won't find it at a better price in Switzerland. (bottom price)

the latest G17 official price is 1120chf (or dollars)

a M&P will go for 950 ..

So, this USP was a a "good" price.

I'm 67 years old.. I've owned guns for over 55 years. In all that time of buying, selling, trading, or just giving away those guns I've only run up on FIVE pistols that were, to me, absolutely reliable, and tremendously accurate right out of the box.

One of those was a Walther P99c/AS.. The other four, H&K's....

I believe after shooting your new acquisition you'll forget the negatives you worried about, and just enjoy a fine, top quality firearm.:)

Best Wishes,

Jesse

wow.. I am only 28 with a 8 years experience only about guns.. So i appreciate your feedback. I was a glock believer for a long time (and still am) but instead of a glock17 I thought I could have a try on the HK.. seems it was a good choice !

Good luck with your new handgun. I am totally sure you will like it much better than a Glock!

I know how you feel about HK considering Colt is doing much of the same here in the USA. Even though they are acting poorly doesn't mean we can't shoot their guns.

I don't care what anyone says about H&K, it's hard to deny they make one heck of a nice firearm.

I've owned several HK's over the years and I've never had one that has any issues whatsoever, every one I've owned has worked flawlessly out of the box.

Congrats on your new gun!

I’m not a ‘HK fanboy’ (don’t even own one) but I don’t get this statement. Why do you blame H&K for “the stupid german laws” ?

“somebody talked about how expensive HK usually is (true)”

I wonder to what extend this depends on the importer and not the manufacturer. Here in Belgium H&K is only marginally more expensive than a Glock an at about the same price (or even slightly cheaper) than a M&P. When I look at rifles, a Sabre XR15 and a HK MR223 are in the same price range and a SIG PE90 is a little cheaper.

The exact question I was formulating. If it is, in fact, illegal to sell their products to civilians in Germany, why is it HK's fault?

They don't need to use guns anymore.. they made crime illegal, and it solved every problem...

HK could just AVOID stupid german laws having their guns made in a FREE country for the rest of the world.. but we suck and they hate us enough not to do this..

When my department decided on a new issue pistol this past year, I bought my USP ... always had a love/hate relationship with it. Shot the doggone thing well, it is super reliable and quite accurate, but I just could never feel the love for it ... Still, won't deny H&K makes a superb pistol -- though the reason why many agencies have given up on H&K is due mainly to lack of timely factory support and parts availability. Seems H&K has decided the US LE market is no longer a company priority.

I also had a similar situation where I picked up an HK on the cheap at a mortgage sale, so to speak, it was the gun or the house pmt. I originally balked a bit because I am belligerent about the attitude they have. Then I though about it like this: I picked up the USP for 600 bucks, in almost unused condition. And the fact that "they" don't think I should have one, but I do anyway, kind of tickles me in a weird sort of way. :D
It is a sweet gun, I must say. Love them or hate them they turn out some very fine workmanship.

I know what you mean.

I will never buy another HK because of their (lack of) customer service.
I have a 9mm P9S in the junk box because HK will not sell me the parts to fix it (they said they had the parts).
They told me I had to buy the parts through a "authorized HK dealer".
The only authorized dealer around won't order parts because he said, "HK is a pain in the ass to do business with and it takes months to get anything, if you ever do".

There's far too many good guns around to put up with that stuff.

If its a police buyback pistol, then not a single cent of your money went to H und K, so have no regrets about buying it. Just be happy with your purchase :D
