I have, carry and like a S&W 340pd. The basic mission in life of these superlight snubs, I figure, is pocket carry; and that's what I usually do with this one.

There are times, however, when I'd like to have my j-frame on my hip; so I'm asking those of you who carry J-frames--what holsters do you like for belt carry? Or, have you found a paddle that conceals well? The easy on-and-off of a paddle is a plus, but not a deal-breaker; I can go for a belt holster happily, especially since this gun isn't gonna pull my pants down. (Yes, I already have a gun-belt, from WildBillsConcealment).

[edited to say: just to clarify, I'm hoping for specific recommdations of maker and model]
Thanks for the recommendations!

I very recenlty acquired a paddle holster that has quickly become a favorite of mine for its ease & speed in putting on & the comfort while I wear it. I'd recommend it.

My favorite way of carrying a J frame is with an Uncle Mike's IWB holster positioned between my pants and belt. In other words, the holster clip goes over the belt and is held very snug against my body. I carry it at 3 o'clock that way and it works great when I have an outer garment on to cover it. I carry a 23 oz. 640 this way with no problems. I've yet to find a paddle holster for a J frame that tucks it in this close.

Wild Bill also makes an IWB holster with a metal clip that works well. I've forgotten the name, but have one for a 442 and one for a BHP. My dad has one of WB's belt slides for a 649 that he likes (I bought it and gave it to him.)

You might try looking at Don Hume's goods online at www.donhume.com. His company makes a paddle and a belt holster that would probably work great. You might try the 720 (paddle) open top or the 721 (belt) open top. I haven't carried a jframe in a waist holster before but I carried a Beretta 92FS in a 721 and can vouch for the quality of Don Hume holsters and gear in general.

the holster i most often use with my 642 is a fobus paddle holster...it has completely replaced my blade-tec IWB.

i thought it was riding too low when i first got it but it has served very well for the past year...it disappears under a sweat shirt. sweater or long t-shirt.

avoid the "roto" model for concealment...it sticks out too much

I just ordered a "deep drop bandit" IWB holster from Bell Charter Oak; am waiting on it. They make
a "half breed slide" holster that looks pretty cool. You might give them a look....

I used a Fobus for my model 37 airweight, and it worked wonders. My 337PD, however, was *way* too difficult to draw from; perhaps it has a thicker trigger guard.

Just something to be aware of.

Great holster for the 37. I have one for my Glock 23 and Walther PPK, as well.
