Can someone please explain to me how this shotgun got around all of the problems I was previously hearing about Benelli not being able to sell a full capacity auto-loading shotgun with a collapsible stock to the US consumer market?

It was my understanding (perhaps in error) that Benelli was selling their shotguns with limited magazine capacity (4+1) and fixed stocks because of the particulars of the import requirements on firearms. Now I see their latest "flagship" M4 is featuring a full magazine capacity and a collapsible stock.

Are these shotguns now being made here (or at least some of the parts here)? Should I expect to see this feature showing up on their other M4 shotguns in the near future?

I always thought the M4 looked like a nice auto-loading defensive shotgun, but I don't like the idea of having an artificially limited magazine capacity (I know there are aftermarket options out there, but I kind of like to see the shotgun in its full glory from the factory). However, I don't need the corrosion resistant coating, and I'm not inclined to pay in the neighborhood of $2,400 for a shotgun that should otherwise be available for less $$

Thanks for the help!

$2400, ouch. I had one for a time in the Corps. They are amazing. I've been considering the standard, but $1400 + a new mag tube makes me cringe as it is. Still, it's on the wish list.

I'll be waiting still. Maybe if the H20 version sells well the standard finish will get the restoration treatment as well. I'm hoping anyway...

Well, that's what I'm trying to understand right now... from what I've heard, the whole reason that the current M4 civilian model has been limited to a fixed stock and 4+1 magazine capacity was (apparently) due to the fact that the version with the telescoping stock and the 7+1 capacity did not meet our import requirements (allegedly because there weren't enough parts of it made here in the states).

Since this new version seems to have those otherwise "standard" features (that were apparently not possible here in the past), it makes me wonder why they aren't being included on the base model? To me, I'd like to see the shotgun come with the 7+1 magazine capacity from the factory. But, like you, I'm not prepared to shell out $2,400 for a shotgun that would otherwise go for $1,400 (which is still not cheap).

Anyone know something on this subject that could help clear up this confusion?
