I am buying a new slug gun, and need one with less recoil than I have now. (Mossberg 695 12ga) I was looking around and found the Benelli Nova 20ga slug. It seemed perfect for my needs, so I called my dealer for a price. He said that his catalog showed no such weapon. It is on Benelli's website, so I gave them a call. I was informed that the 20ga had been discontinued. I looked around their site more, and saw the Supernova. They claim that the comfortech stock reduces recoil up to 48% compared to other shotguns.

Does it work as advertised? I can handle my wifes 1100 12ga deer gun fine, will this be similar, less, or more in terms of recoil? Just trying to find out somewhat before I spend the money. So far the only other option I am considering is the Remington 870 slug in 20ga, but I prefer the rifle sites on the barrel and drilled/tapped reciever of the Benelli.

Thanks for any input.

I love benelli shotguns and have the opportunity to shoot them extensively. This having been said, and understanding that benelli is convinced that their science and sales pitch is sound, I have to say that I cannot tell one bit of difference in comfortech guns and those without. Recently I handed a standard M1 and a comfortech M2 to a buddy of mine who had never shot either, and who didnt know he was being used as a lab rat. His opinion was that the M1 actually kicked a bit less with shells out of the same box. This M1 is a few ounces heavier than the M2, so that may be the difference. Just one opinion, you will likely get others! Good luck.

Thanks for the input, it is greatly appreciated.

That's what I was affraid of. I was leary of spending the money without knowing if it really worked or not.

Comfortec stock works well I find, but the stock is very long.Had to fit the collapsing stock to get reasonable lop.

Shot 3.5" shells in my buddys nova and in my supernova. Didnt notice a difference. If anything the nova was less abrubt. It was -26 C when we were shooting i dont know if the cold made the "comfortech" useless by freezing the chevrons.

I have a 24" SuperNova I use for HD and having some fun at the clays range. With the same 7/8 oz. loads I use in my 8 3/4 lb. Citori, my 7 lb SuperNova doesn't seem to recoil any more the Citori. Plus, a big factor is I was able to adjust the drop on the stock to fit me with the shims they provide. Don't ever forget that gun fit is a big determinant in how recoil is perceived, and the SN is fully adjustable. Good luck!

3.5 in shells are going to kick mercilessly hard no matter what the platform. Ive found that the added weight of the mercury recoil reducer thingy benelli makes works wonders with the heavy stuff. I dont think you can get that on the supernova

I have a super nova and a SBE II. Both have comfortech stocks and both are equipped with limbsaver recoil pads.
Pumps do kick more than auto's.
Comfortech stock + limbsaver = a pleasure to shoot

I tried the Comfortech stock (on a SuperNova tactical) and found it to be a fairly comfortable and effective platform. However, I went with the Suregrip pistol grip stock and havent looked back. This offered much more control for me and allowed me to really bury the stock into my shoulder. I cant say that the pistol grip stock is "easier" on the body vs the Comfortech, in terms of recoil. But, I prefer stability over anything else. I think managing and/or feeling recoil isnt just about "softer" pads, but its about how well the recoil is controlled. Take high powered handguns, for instance. Sloppy technique and form will certainly result in more felt recoil.

I think your best bet would be to borrow your wife's! I have noticed no difference between the two but I don't own either....

I've been looking for the limbsaver pad for my supernova but I dont know which one fits. Did you get the one for the regular nova or the SBE II? was it a perfect fit on the supernova? part# would be great.

Thank you.

The part # that is a direct bolt on and a perfect fit is #10401. That is the one that is on both of mine.
I believe that it is listed to fit the SBE II. Not the regular Nova or the SBE I.

I think fit is far more important than any such recoil-reducing widget. If it fits, even heavy recoil will be manageable. Even though my Novas have their factory, rock-hard recoil "pads," I can shoot 3.5'' rounds pain-free. This is because they fit me so well.
