I have been a proud owner of the Beretta 390 for some time now. I currently own the 3901 American Citizen. It is my PERSONAL OPINION that the 390 is the best semi-auto out there for under $1000. My gun has never failed to fire, never frozen up, never failed me in any way in over 5,000 rounds. I have had some bad experiences with semi-autos but cant say the same for the Beretta line. I am biased on this one but I love this gun!
What I like:
reliability
durability
quality (for under $800)
minimal recoil
fit and feel of the gun

I'm not trying to start any shotgun opinion wars- I just wanted to pass on the fact that my 390 has performed like a dream and I paid $550 for it. Any other 390 fans out there?

I don't get out and shoot shotgun near as much as I would like to, but I love my 390. Always works and never a hiccup.

Great gun and big fan. Try the 391 its another great piece..
Beretta has it going on when it comes to Shotguns !!

My family has several 391's- they are great guns. Beretta does it right. My brother in law shoots the 391 Urika and I like it alot but find myself reaching for my 3901 more...

I use a 3901 20 ga that is really soft shooting with standard target loads. Even the most recoil sensitive person should be able to handle this. It's easy to clean and easy to carry. It's a great gun to introduce new shooters. I doubt I'll ever reach the full capabilities of this firearm.

The only thing wrong with Beretta semi-autos is they don't offer a 391 in 28 guage. I send a pleading email to Beretta about once a year but so far no luck. :(

I bought a 390 Sporting right about the time the 391 came out. I've put well over 10k thru it with exactly one hiccup- a failure to cycle after the first round following a thorough tear-down and cleaning. I field stripped and re assembled and its been perfect ever since. Don't know why the hitch but suspect a piece of carbon or sludge somewhere.

PJR- They do offer one now, but it's a Benelli, not a Beretta gas gun.
Thanks AB. I knew about the Raffaello/Legacy. Interesting gun but very light at under 5lbs, not a gas action and only available in 24 and 26 inch barrel lengths. I also haven't seen a Legacy in my part of the world and while anxious to look at one it might not be suitable. I want a 28 gauge that can serve as an introductory gun for women and young shooters and one that can I can use as well with a longer stock.

Perfect would be a heavier, gas-operated 391-2 in 28 gauge on the same frame as the 20 gauge.

I just took my 390 out today. I love this gun and it shoots so well! This gun points naturally for me and I feel like I am very effective with it. I am a big Remington 870 fan, but this 390 is my go to gun now.

I just picked up a 400, today.

Can't wait to get out and bust some clays and chukar with it. It's my first semi-auto SG, so I hope it does well. It points nicely and the kick-off feature will be welcome after a few boxes. No more purple shoulder :)
