what can you tell me about the beretta 92 brigadier? like? don't? why?

do regular 92 grips and magazines fit?

is this a suitable gun for gun games/competitive shooting? i'm thinking specifically of run-n'-gun ipsc games and maybe bullseye shooting? is the gun strong enough to handle competitive shooting?

is there a better option?

Magazines, yes, grips, probably. The difference is in the slide which is thicker and heavier.

If it's strong enough for the Army it's strong enough to handle some pretty serious shooting.
Although most people that ask that question about any firearm really aren't going to be convinced of the opposite. 8)

I bought one when they first came out. Difference, as stated, is the thickness of the slide (greater mass) and removable/interchangeable front sight. Beretta utilized the Brigadier slide in their "Elite" series of pistols which was/is used in IDPA and other competitions. Mine was reliable and accurate. The Brigadier is generally regarded as robust and reliable pistol, which may shine more when shooting the .40 rather than the 9mm, which if I recall, was because of a spec change a customer wanted at the time (INS?). I like my Beretta 92's and have several variants.
Though I would not consider the Brigadier suitable for bullseye shooting by any means, as the sights and trigger are no where good enough, I have seen several used in matches such as IPSC etc.

He has a really good video about what kind of equipment and ammo he uses in his Beretta 92 brigadiers/Elites/Elite II's etc.

I think he has something like 8 or 10 of them.

The Brigadier was the genesis of the Elite series that Ernest Langdon used to take his IDPA World Championship. The reinforce slide...much stronger than the 92FS... in the area of the locking block ears, makes the 92 almost indestructible and adds extra strength for the 96.

A bigger plus factor is the dovetailed front sight, which makes sight changes much easier

the M9 holds all the Service Pistol records previously held by the 1911A1. Just like the Match grade 1911s, these 92s (not Brigadier) are highly tweaked, with outstanding slide/frame fit and triggers

I love my Brigadier. The only problem I've ever had with it was that it started to "gum up" after multiple sessions of shooting over a year and not cleaning afterwards (not sure how many rounds between cleaning, probably 300+). It was my first handgun and I don't ever plan on selling it. My wife shoots good with it too.

and now that begs the question: what is the difference between a brigadier and an elite? obviously i know very little about berettas, so appreciate the help.

The Elite is basically a factory version of the gun that Langdon used to storm IDPA with. The big differences are the stainless steel slide and the short barrel over an alloy frame and the inclusion of the de-cocker in place of the thumb safety. The is an Elite I and a II, the skeletonized hammer is lighter on the I and sometimes resulted in ignition problems
