I have a Beretta 92FS and would like to remove the firing pin and spring for a deep cleaning. I have removed the extractor and its spring. Removed the right saftey lever by drifting out its two pins. Removed the firing pin block and its spring. But now can't get the firing pin out. Tried to drift the saftey out to the left with a few light taps of the brass hammer, didn't move. I suspect that the firing pin plunger which is integral to the safety may be part of the problem but unsure how to get around it. Is there a trick to this?

Go to biggerhammer.net and look for the Beretta M9 manual. In the second PDF section you will find detail instructions on how to remove the firing pin.

To finish removing the safety lever, place it in the fire positon. Use a punch or other tool to press the plunger in. While holding it in, rotate the safety lever up until it stops. Now you can tap the lever out to the left. The safety detents are on springs and will fly out so be ready. Since the extractor pin is already out the firing pin and spring will fly out the back of the slide as well.

Personally, I would think twice about removing the extractor and firing pin just for cleaning. The extractor hinge pin is staked in place on top of the slide. This stake is only good for a few removals before it needs to be redone. Re-staking it is easy enough, but in doing so you'll damage the finish there.
