I keep hearing about the "deactivated safety" angle in threads such as these...

No one ever has an example of such a case.

Just sayin.

I can see if you removed a drop safety, drop your gun and injure someone, yeah, you'll have some explaining to do. If I pull my gun in self defense, it better be the most super deadly weapon on earth when I pull the trigger!

Not MY list, Mas Ayoob's list. I assume you know who he is, if not, start reading his columns in Handgunner.

Yes, carrying with handloads in the gun is probably the worst thing you can ever do. The other side's lawyer will stand there in court and say you have a bloodthirsty nature, that regular ammo isn't strong enough for you, that you had to load up your own extra powerful ammo, that was more lethal than regular ammo, so it could kill with greater certainty....Sounds silly, but to a jurist who knows absolutely NOTHING about guns, it can make sense. And that jurist will be voting on whether or not YOU keep your freedom.

The easiest way you can avoid any entanglements in court after a self defense shooting is this; carry the same gun and the same ammo that your local cops are carrying. And if you don't like Glocks, at least carry the same ammo.

Zach, you must not have read Ayoobs columns in handgunner, or his books on concealed carry. Ayoob is an expert witness who has testified in hundreds of self defense shootings. He is the ultimate expert in the known universe, on what can get you in trouble in a court of law insofar as self defense shootings are concerned.

He has testified in dozens of cases where safety devices were de-activated to make the gun more efficient in a fight. And in most of them it went ill for the gunowner.

The only ammo I trust my life to is the ammo I load! Have you seen some of the junk the ammo companies are putting out these days? My ammo is super deadly, just like my guns;) lol!

Google Masaad Ayoob and you will see some of the books he has written on the subject. In them you will find all of the examples you would ever want about modifying guns and how that can get you into trouble in court.

J.D. I don't know what kind of factory ammo you have been buying, but the specialized self defense ammo I buy is of the highest quality and leaves nothing to be desired.

All I know about this whole subject is this: The writings of a known Expert witness, who has testified in hundreds of court cases involving self defense shootings....carries a lot of weight as far as I am concerned. If he says "don't do it, it will probably get you in trouble" ...I listen

Is this the same Ayoob that has wrote what seems like 1000 articles for a dozen firarms magazines? Founder of LFI?

Yeah, I've heard of him, and read his articles. Its funny how some people think of him as something like a profit, because, like the good book, I noticed a lot of contradictions in his writings when I was a regular reader. With enough digging, I'm sure both of us could find a statement or article written by Mas to support our different opinions.

Anyway, if you could cite some of those cases, that would be great.

I gave up on Ayoob about 20 years ago and his sky is falling writing . He make a good living writing and selling books to scare people.

I would like to know actual number of cases he has testified in. Over less say last 30 years . And who/what made a magazine writer. I believe self published book writer, Reserve policeman on small town force . Some kind of expert.

As a gun tester I don't think he ever tested a pistol he didn't like and that then became his #1 carry till next test.

Sorry no longer drink his kool aid like you do . I did years ago but no longer

You should see all the duds I find on the fop range! Never had a reload not fire, ever... Hell, I even found a round that had the bullet pressed in backwards! A guy on GT, just blew up a new G30 on some Blazer ammo, I could on but you just keep on believing factory is better:neener:

Tark and I know that Ayoob is a member here and could not provide citations to the cases you're talking about when asked.
