I'm not sure were to put this, It takes handgun mags, and is a Handgun caliber, but it is the length of a rifle. Hope Handgun General Discussion is OK.

I'm thinking of buying one when they come out. I did a Google search and came up with this Beretta CX4 Storm. I want a 9mm carbine so I can shoot it at the indoor range I belong to. I have been told the Dealer price on it is around $640. Which means I'll end up paying atleast $800 at a gun shop. I don't really want to pay that much, but the only other thing I have seen that I like is the Olympic 9mm AR (Olympic Page ) One reason I like the Beretta is that there are plenty of 15 round mags out there are reasonable prices, If the ban ends in 2004 this won't be important any more, be the Olympic conversion mags are $65 and illegal in my state. Has anyone held one of the Berettas? Anyone have any thoughts either way as to buying one?

I handled them yesterday

I played with them at the SHOT show, as did tons of other people. There was one plain one, and one with the front rail and vertical grip present. I loved the little gun! I'll have one in my safe asap. They're really small, and have a tiny length of pull, but you can make it longer with extension plates. It seemed fairly smaller than my H&K USC, about the size of a CAR-15, with stick compressed. It was really light but felt solid, not unlike the feel of the H&K USC. The Beretta guys wouldn't tell me when it would be on the street exactly, but they all stuck with mid-June as a ballpark date. I don't know whether that was fluff, but they did state that several times to me, as well as to many others in the crowd. And I also saw how it's coded in the order computer system, and it's something like CX4 9mm 92 and CX4 9mm 8000. So that means that it (the 9mm at least) will support either 92F or Couger 8000 mags, depending on which one you buy. I have seen the prices too, and they really are quite low. If they actually come out at the prices I saw, I'll have to buy several!

As for the Oly 9mm, I had one on a BM lower, with the SOCOM block and Sten mags. The Sten mags are about $6 each, and fit fine with the SOCOM block, which is $50 new. It was a delight to shoot, but I found the mags hard to load, and sometimes cranky on the first round or two. If the top round was seated in the mag correctly and it didn't jam on the first shot, it would work well throughout the rest of the mag. It was very accurate, and had almost no recoil, and was one of my favorite guns to shoot, though I did end up selling it. I was wishing lately that I had it back, and was thinking of getting another one, but with these Storms coming out soon, I'll wait. But, if you are into ARs, and like all the great things you can add onto them, then a 9mm AR is for you!

If the ban goes bye bye and they make 30 rounders for the Cx4, that means I get 30 round 92G mags? :D :D :D

Aren't there ultra hi-cap mags already for most 9mm guns? I know I have seen many 30 rd Glock mags at gun shows.

Other 9mm Carbines:

Kel-Tec Sub 2000
Feather USA RAV-9MM
Ruger PC9
Hi-Point 9mm Carbine

Close. ;) It has a shoulder stock, so it's a carbine.

I'll second the 10mm!!! My favorite handgun round is the .45 ACP but it makes a terrible carbine round.

.44-Magnum is the perfect cabine round. Fast and Heavy.

I don't know why beretta is making these rifles for us in the US when we all want this rifle

A semi-auto AR-70 that takes AR-15 mags and is totally US legal, what are you waiting for Beretta USA!?!?!

I'll save my pennies and see what the market price will be by the time they hit the streets in any quantity. So long as it is in the sub 1K range I'll be able to justify purchasing one.

I'm a great fan of 9mm rifles and this would be a great addition. The HK USCs are nice, but way pricey.

Good Shooting

I have resurrected this thread to share this...

Marksmans Mart is already listing the CX4 Storm for sale... All three calibers are priced at $623.54.

I'm at work, so I haven't called them yet to find out what the deal is... I'm assuming it's a pre-order of some sort.

If that does turn out to be the price, I'm going to have a hard time spending $800-ish to build that 9mm AR I've been researching/saving for.

PS - I couldn't wait... I went outside and called them on my cell. They are taking pre-orders online. Just fill in your info, and you get a confirmation back that they are "out of stock". Then, when they do arrive (mid to late summer according to sales rep.) they will contact you to see if you're still interested. First come, first served.

:D

Mid to late summer? That sucks.

I was hoping to get a 9mm carbine sooner then that.

Jimbo, probably not, as it's technically a thumbhole stock (even if you put your whole hand and not just your thumb through it)

I wonder which member of this board has one of those..

And the answer is: none, unless they're LEO and have an eclectic Chief. That's a Beretta AR70/90, the revised version of the AR70 that takes NATO STANAG magazines and has an improved and strengthened receiver. Tamara's rifle is an AR70...slightly different receiver, and proprietary magazines.

FYI, the designer of the Cx4 Storm is Herr Ulrich Zedrosser, formerly of Steyr, where he designed the AUG action, the SBS action, and the Steyr Scout barreled action (a Steyr industrial designer came up with the "look and feel" and aesthetic design). He's now an independent arms design consultant.

The Storm is designed for tool-free disassembly and user convertability from right to left hand ejection and bolt handle. It's of straight blowback design with a large and heavy bolt block reminiscent of the Uzi.

And based on feedback he's gotten, Zedrosser will be modifying the thumb safety so that it's usable by those who have smaller hands and/or shorter fingers.
