I'm considering getting one or the other of these two pistols, and I'd appreciate some opinions/input. I have small hands and short fingers so most double-stack 9mms don't fit my hand as well as the single-stacks. (I have a safe full of single-stacks, but I'm feeling the need for another double-stack 9mm besides my lonely Hi-Power.) For that reason the PX4 Storm with it's interchangeable backstraps looks appealing, though I prefer the Cougar's metal construction and price over the PX4 Storm. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to handle either one. Does the Cougar tend to fit smaller hands OK? Also, do they (dis)assemble/field-strip the same? Thanks.

Go with the Px4. A friend of mine was set on the couger until I put a PX4 in his hands. Its essentialy the same gun, but the Px4 is a bit more refined.

CptA is right-on when he says... "Its essentially the same gun, but the PX4 is a bit more refined." Own a Cougar but have shot the Px4 a bunch... Cougar is a great, all-metal shoot. Excellent quality (BOTH are), very accurate (rotary barrel) and very reliable (zero FTFs, FTE, etc)... and usually at a real good price.
For me, it's all-metal guns (CZs, Sigs, etc), not into plastic... so the Cougar was a natural. Both are full-sized guns, Cougar weighs about 5-6 oz. more than the PX4, holds 15-rnds vs. 17, and has a great 'combo' decocker/safety system! Very easy to strip/clean tho the rotary barrel is at first, a little different.
Main difference is $$$... PX4's run about $550... Cougar about $375-400. Most dealers stock the PX4 (very popular gun) where as the Cougar is tougher to find.

As always, it's... "See 'em, hold 'em, shoot 'em" if you can. Most ranges have the PX4 (rarely a Cougar)... When you're spending $400-600 for a gun, it's a major purchase... get one that you really love (looks great, feels great and shoots great... FOR YOU!!)

If it's right for you, would highly recommend the 9mm COUGAR... great gun, great value!
