Beretta PX4 Storm VS Stoeger Cougar Series

I have been researching both the Beretta PX4 Storm models, and the Stoeger Cougar series.

The information I have discovered suggests that these pistols are identical copies nearly except the material in the frame. Stoeger uses aluminum while Beretta is using polymer.

I also have read and seen how the Stoeger is built on Beretta tooling?

Long skinny:
Do magazines interchange?
Do barrels, recoil springs or slides(and components like firing pins or extractors) interchange?
Do frames interchange at all?
(Caliber consistent)

It appears from my research that they do interchange, but I am wondering if anyone has experience doing so??

Cougar mags can use a 92 mag if it has the correct mag release notch cut in it (or you can cut one in it).

Similar in that they both have a rotating barrel action (aside from the sub-compact PX4 which isn't rotating and I think discontinued), but I don't think any parts interchange.

Beretta owns Stoeger and I heard that they moved the equipment to Turkey to make the Cougars there but wouldn't bet on that. I think the Cougar line suffered due to it coming out during the AWB of 94 and so it was hard/impossible to get standard capacity magazines for them.

I never tried to swap parts across those 2 platforms. Given the 20 or so year gap in creation I would be a bit surprised if they did cross over.

Both are good pistols. I think the PX4 has more support these days than the Cougar. Check out Langdon Tactical if you haven't for PX4 work and video reviews.

I don't know for sure but I'd be very surprised if magazines or slides interchanged between the two platforms. If Beretta 92 mags work in the Cougar with a different mag catch cut then I can state for sure they won't swap with PX4 mags. The two are different. I have two PX4s so if anyone in north/central utah has a Cougar and wants to meet up to try to swap parts around LMK. I'm curious now.

So I did find some evidence someone has swapped some barrels and parts, but haven't seen or heard any functioning report of said parts.

It looks like he swapped recoil springs, but I am curious myself.
I appreciate both your responses so far, and I have come to similar conclusions. Other than having both to test & measure or compare, I can't know.

I think knowing would help anyone who owns one or either for parts availability.

I would specify which Cougar (there is a full size and a mini, I think in 2 or 3 calibers) and which Px4 (three of those, and in which caliber there).

I have thought about getting a 40 upper for my Stoeger Cougar but couldn't find confirmation that it was a simply switch, so didn't do it.

May be worth checking on the Beretta forum. I would expect the Cougars to swap parts around among themselves but wouldn't bet the farm on that.

There is a guy over on Berettaforum.net that has swapped around various parts between the Cougar and the PX4. I think he has done it for the novelty of the exercise. His forum name over there is AdioSS.

Are you having problems finding parts for one or the other?

I own a PX4. I wouldn't choose to put Cougar parts in my gun. Likewise, the Cougar is still in production. I don't know the Beretta/Stoeger supply chain, but I'd be surprised if you couldn't find Cougar parts and would have to resort to using PX4 parts in a Cougar.

Neither gun is super common like a Glock, so it's not like your local store has a pile of PX4 or Cougar parts on the shelves like you'd find for a Glock G17/G19. You probably have to order either PX4 or Cougar parts on line either way, so it shouldn't make much difference.

I don't think Beretta Px4 and Stoeger Cougar share any parts. Beretta Cougar e Stoeger Cougar I believe are identical because the machinery is the same.
