I have a DW 1911 [series 70] "Razorback", it had some teething problems but nothing serious. The customer service is excellent and thier product line is an excellent value.

I also own two Para products, both have given reliable service and would recommend that line of firearm.

12-34hom.

Helstrm, you're my kind of guy with guts and you didn't get any boos...
Now, if I had pictured my proud Llama!!:banghead: :cuss:

Can't speak from experience but I've pretty much narrowed mine down to one of these two...........I want adjustable sights though. The Springfield's are also night sites.

I've got one of these. Been shootin' a 100 rds of my SWC's a day out of it. It keeps on a tickin.

Yes, that looks very sweet - I have read that the finish isn't very durable, though.

I've been impressed with Dan Wesson. I love mine and have heard very few to no complaints about any of there models.

+1
My Razorback is the most reliable, out of the box, "plain vanilla" type 1911 I've ever owned.

In my flame induced hiatus I had the chance to shoot several 1911's in my search for spiritual oneness..

Springy loaded/TRP (I think that was what it was) would be my first choice

Dan Wesson...cant remember which one it was, but it made my abyssmal shooting skills seem "okay"

Kimber...Series 1 if ya can find them, although I got the chance to shoot one of the newer ones without a problem, so MAYBE Kimber has its stuff sorted out..

RIA..One of the best buy's right now on the market

Cant comment on the Colt:barf: ...Ya couldnt give me one..err well ya could but I would dump it and buy a springy or a Dan Wesson 10mm or maybe a cz75

unpleasant dreams

I am satisfied....

I'm partial to a Para Ordinance P15-45 Limited that cost me $825 2 years ago. Pleasant to shoot, nice trigger out of the box - new!

Good luck deciding.

I am not trying to hijack this post, but I would rather understand why there are so many problems with current 1911s? This post like many others out there are just every day gun people looking for a halfway decent 1911.

I'm having no problems whatsoever with my S&Ws, nor with my Kimber Ultra Carry II.

You are from Texas so support the local 1911 and pick up a STI Trojan.

Colt NRM 1991 or Series 70

Springfield Loaded

Kimber Custom II w/internal extractor

Smith & Wesson PD

Haven't handled any Dan Wessons but hear nothing but good things.

Any of these will do you well.

ps............ I have five Colts, two Kimbers and a Springfield ;)

Save yourself the few years of going through K and S guns and then bouncing around the semi-customs. Get that Series 70 Colt now.

Brewer, are those all yours? I really have no need for another 1911, but I've been looking at those Trojans for a while now. Probably will be my next purchase. Any complaints?

Back to the topic at hand, I've had good luck with 4 series I Kimbers and a dan wesson. Good luck with your decision.

Under a grand I like the Kimbers because I think they are more consistent in fit, trigger quality and accuracy. At the price point of the Springfield TRP I swap back over to favor the Springfields. Beyond the price of the TRP I'd take a Baer over either.

Just picked up another Kimber recently, a Custom Eclipse 10MM which has the internal extractor. It's a very nicely made gun for under a thousand dollars. It has a very good trigger, it's fit well and is accurate and reliable to boot.

The thing with the sub $1000 Springfields, in my experience, is that they vary widely. Some I've sampled had really rough, heavy triggers, while others were much better. If I went with a Springfield at that price level I'd really want to handle it before purchasing it.

I wish! No I have a STI 2011 Edge which I really, really like. No complaints at all with it. The Trojans are in his price range though and the Edge isn't. I have a couple of Kimbers too but will at some point also get a Trojan. Since STI is just a few miles north of Austin maybe they should rename the gun the Longhorn instead of Trojan- name it after the National Champs you know, instead of the runner up ;)

LOL, I like that. :D

Is it just me?

Is it just me, or do others get the heebee jeebees when seeing a picture of a firearm set down in this condition (cocked, but not locked)? I feel the same way when I see a picture of a revolver just sitting there with the hammer back and brass showing in the cylinder. What is the official number for this condition anyway, 1,2, or 3? I know the name of my condition. You'll probably say it's paranoia:) .

The photo quality is good. I wish I could take pictures like that....

Any Para-Ordnance (single stack or hi-cap) ($650 - $950)

The Springfield Armory MC Operator ($899)

I'd go with a Colt Series 70, the first
1911 in my collection from when they were 400.00 and still my favorite.
Btw, does anyone know where I can get a Series 70 frame as my pet
has a Brown magwell welded on it
and I want to go back to the stock look.

i would go for a sa 1911 of some sort. i would say the loaded series or even the mc operator, that is what i have and i love it. i have 1000rds in it, and it was and is a great choice.

also there are some nice kimbers out there under the 1 k limit. the tactical model, the tle, etc.

Who dug this thread out of the grave?

Oh well.............

I'll post another vote for the best 1911 under a grand.......maybe two grand.

Dan Wesson
