Best AR for the money now

Colt SP6920 or a BCM if you want a middy. There is also the option of Spike's for a good middy. If you want a precision gun, LaRue, Noveske and BCM all sell precision AR's for a decent sum, but the accuracy you get pays you back.

S&W's may be okay, though I don't believe they're full mil-spec. RRA's might also be okay but I've heard bad stuff about their assembly process (torquing, materials, etc.).
Doublestar and Del-ton are not what I'd call decent, stay away from Bushmaster and DPMS.

$1000 for a milspec (or as close as you can legally get) carbine PLUS a superb Aimpoint PRO optic.

Wow. There it is. 1/7 twist, chrome-lined barrel, MPI bolt, forged lower, 5.56mm chamber, properly-staked gas key (so it says, anyway), reputable manufacturer, Aimpoint PRO w/QRP2 mount ($400 optic, $100 mount), and a back-up iron sight, for $999.99?

Buy it. Don't think about it. Buy it.

PSA looks good on paper. I am watching them closely and waiting to hear how they do when run hard. But I am hopefully optimistic.
