In your opinion, what is the best carry gun made today and why? I am trying to decide between these for concealed carry in a holster:

1. Wilson Combat CQB
2. Glock 17
3. Sig 228

My concern is with reliabilty, comfort, stopping power and capacity. I have decided a BUG and that is the S&W 340PD.

Greeting's shane1-

Without knowing your requirement's, I'd say
the .45 caliber SIG-SAUER P220A.

At least it would be, and is MY choice for three
reason's; with the MAIN ONE being:

RELIABILITY

not to mention accuracy, and craftsmanship. :D

S&W Model 13/65 3" heavy barrel round butt....

1911A1 not far behind
My butchered 586 4" is also great.

A Ruger Old Model 357 6.5 is a great woods walking gun.

Do a search for ultimate carry gun.

Do you have a caliber preference? Do you prefer wheelgun or semi auto? Personally, I like the S&W 640 in a wheelgun & a USPc (you pick caliber) in a semi auto...easy to shoot well, reliable, durable & accurate.

If you mean concealed holster carry gun, I'd have to say the Kahr P9 Covert.

If you mean pocket carry, I'd go with a P32 or P3AT.

If you mean open carry, I have a lot of faith in both the Glock 17/19 and the Beretta design.

I am looking for a concealed carry holster gun in either 9mm or .45ACP. I prefer the option of a safety. I like the HK USPC but I have not fired one.

The best carry gun is the one you're willing to carry. None of the ones mentioned by the posters are going to do you a darn bit of good if it's at home in the safe or locked in the car when you need it.

My $.02 for the best CCW gun is the S&W J-frame size snubby revolver in .38/.357 hands down. They are utterly reliable, easy to use and hide as well as, or better than, anything out there in the non-mousegun market. Though I also use a Glock 27. Kahr P9 & PM9 and a Springfield Micro Compact .45 for CCW, the J-frame is still the favorite.

For a small auto with a safety you might also consider a Springfield XD9 Subcompact. It has a grip safety.

The biggest you personally can carry and which is RELIABLE. So many choices .. so as ever ... what works for the individual IMO.

If CCW too then .. concealability on YOUR person and in your environment counts for a lot.

Many carry full size ... others cannot afford that luxury. Me? Because at home most of time ... SP-101 snub is usual ... but P series works fine this time of year when out and about too.

''How long is a piece of cord''?? ............. :D

My criteria are:
Reliability
Caliber
Concealability
Capacity

I used to really like the HK USPc in .40S&W. Now I carry a Para C6.45LDA.

Best is always relative. Some pistols go on the drawing board for concealment though, like the Para C6.45LDA and the Kimber RPKII.

Even though I am extremely fond of my Colt 1991A1, I believe the best carry gun title goes to another. For size, power and concealability and controllability, I believe the GLOCK 19 is the best carry gun.

My Glock 27 hides on my belt pretty well.
Any of my J-Frames hide OK in my pocket.
But other than my Seecamp or Guardian, my Kahr PM9 hides better than a J-Frame in my pocket. It's about the same weight as a J-Frame, but holds more (*and more powerful) cartridges.

The best carry gun is the one that works best for you.

For me, that means a 1911 or a K-frame S&W revolver.

Other people have different ideas of what works best for them. That's why they make more than one kind of gun.

This is a very subjective question as some of the posts have suggested.
My criteria is compact, lightweight TDA pistol with decent capacity & a proven record of reliability.
With this in mind, I've found that my Smith 669 serves my needs both on and off duty.

Ain't it the truth.

I have tried a tupperware 9mm Ruger. Hard to carry, blocky clunky and just plain awkward. Bad trigger and sub-standard barrel steel.

Tried two snubbies. A M36 J-Frame and a Rossi M677. Both guns were also uncomfortable to carry. I discovered early that becoming good with a snubbie took more time than I wished to spend.

Went to a LW Commander and never looked back. Fits my hand, good trigger, good sights, fairly light and easy to hide. No cylinder digging into my hip. Accuracy and reliability is good enough to run with the racegunners in IDPA and IPSC Limited Class. If my gun runs well in competition it will most likely run well in the real world.

There is no best carry gun. There is only the best gun for you and your particular application.

This is my opinion, your opinion may vary.

Do you think any of those apply to the poly Kahrs?

Edit - Oops... I'm a dolt... I completely missed the word 'Ruger' in your post. :p

The whole sad P-95 story is documented elsewhere on THR.
The gentleman that started this topic is interested in the best carry gun not the worst( my opinion, yours may vary) so I won't bore anyone else with the story again. Don't want his thread hijacked either.
