OK, so I'm planning on starting to carry soon, but I'm not sure which gun I'd like to carry, I started shooting when I was 10 and my father and I have a fair collection, My 3 options are a Walther PPK in .380, a S&W model 10 (.38 special), and a East German Sig P226 in 9mm, we have a few mags for each (speed loaders for the revolver), and i have holsters but not good ones for CCW, currently I'd be doing open carry but I would eventually like to get a CCW, any advice on selection or a good holster would be appriciated.

Carry what you shoot best and fastest with. I'm tempted to choose the SIG but it's a little too big for IWB although it's doable. Lots of good holsters - you may have to experiment a bit to find one that suits you.

What ever works for you
I'm not you
I don't know you
I don't hang with you
I really don't know what works for you, what you like, how much you have to spend, preferences in carry.

Find the candidates, try to shoot them, try to hide them, find what works for YOU

like he said, we not you
your lifestyle, fear factor, threat assessment.. yours alone
some folks live a more adventurous lifestyle than others

me, the 380acp would do
label me mr. dull

The PPK has a horrible DA first shot, coupled with a slide that likes to "slice and dice" the gun hand. But at least, it's underpowered.

The Sig 226 has a slightly better DA pull that can be improved upon and it won't slice and dice you. It's not too big in the right holster carried by a good belt, but you have to want to carry it.

The S&W Model 10 would work, but is it a 2", 4" 5" or 6" barrel?

The bottom line, tho, is which one are YOU best with? How about rapid fire?

some folks live in Machete Man country

some possums are quicker than others
YSMV
(your splits may vary)
Walthers do bite my hand, but not all hands, sort of depends on the hand that feeds 'em

Just a couple of suggestions (based on my personal experience)
1. Get your NH permit first as winter is fast approaching. Ever see a Glock covered in freezing rain. "Glazed like a donut."
2. Have you carried each of your selctions 'around the place' on a regular basis. Helped me weed out the bulky/hefty ones and get a better feel for sitting with it on for extended periods.
p.s. Riley's in Hooksett has a good selection of holsters in stock.

Thanks for the suggestions, I do like the sig, but the only one at the moment i have a holster for is the S&W, and were i live I'm more worried about bears then people. Everybody thanks for the imput and smallbore I'll look into Raily's.

WEG
bears, big
WHERE
have you seen a 'big bear'
in life, a 12 foot, ton size brown, sorry I will take bear spray and a shotty, cause, um I know that a .44 can work read a story every year (cause they like live near me, stupid bear mountain...) but I also get the hear the ones where a guy shoots the bear, and then plays chew toy, questions about bear, PM Kodiak Beer, he has got to deal with the really big bears (think about his name...)

Uhhgh! the OP is asking advice on concealed carry with his current stable of firearms and of course someone mentions Glock. If that Smith is a snubbie I would start with it. The 38 special is a good SD round and is very controlable. Check out different IWB holsters for it, there are many cheap options to try. Once you find a comfortable carry mode you will be surprised how well a snubbie carries.

I have that same type of stable of carry guns.
I use leather Tagua or Masters IWB for CC or OWB paddles for OC

Hope that helped

I own a copy of all three. Have had several of both the SIG 226 all west German, and the model 10/65 etc....

Get a good quality holster for either the SIG 226 or model 10 with a good belt. Both of these are excellent fighting guns. I have carried the 226 myself, and have been in fire fights with a model 10. Great guns.

The Walther would make a good BUG (Back Up Gun) too. That's how I used mine about 20 years ago, for a short period. I found I preferred my "J" frame bodyguard as my BUG. Had been carrying one a "J" frame bodyguard, starting at work in 1967 with a model 38.

Again which ever you choose, INVEST in a top quality gun belt and quality holsters. It may not seem to, but quality belt and holster make carrying much more comfortable than the good inexpensive stuff. There is a reason many of us have several boxes of holsters.

No real bad choice between those two.

Good luck.

Fred

Having a collection of good holsters will give you many options. Get the CCW and carry concealed . IWB is often the most concealable.

I do like the sig, but the only one at the moment i have a holster for is the S&W

Then buy a good holster for the Sig and give it a go. Buy a good, double thick belt and magazine pouch while you're at it. Buy more full capacity mags for the Sig, along with practice ammo.

were i live I'm more worried about bears THAN people.

Unless there have been a dozen folks eaten inexplicably by bears the past year, it's probably a non-factor in most day to day activities. None of the guns listed would be good for bear.

For me it would be the Sig hands down but, as others have suggested it should be an individual choice and the one you shoot the best.

I shoot the Sig best, but as said before i don't have a holster for it.

For the concealing the sig, check out High Noon Holsters. I have the bare asset and its a great fit, and super slim. They make much more expensive ones, but for the purpose and price, its a great buy in my opinion.
