A few months ago, I was just finished with my own personal evaluation of several wondrous new cleaning products that were supposed to be much superior to Breakfree. Despite some high hopes caused by the various claims on the Internet and several gun forums, I was mostly disappointed.

Few of them were bad; but none of them showed any real edge over Breakfree. Not only that; but some of them were a pain to apply - basically requiring me to clean and degrease the entire gun before I could even try their product out.

I had just about decided to go back to Breakfree when I saw a couple of people commenting on a product called SLIP 2000. Out of four or five different gun forums I frequent, there were maybe 2-3 posts total and nobody seemed to know much about it; but I did recognize that the people commenting favorably were generally very knowledgable on AR15s. Since the AR tends to be a little bit on the dirty side; I figured there might be a slim chance the product lived up to its reputation.

I extended my test just long enough to try SLIP 2000s version of CLP and I can say I am really glad I did. It is clearly superior to Breakfree in protective abilities, lubrication and cleaning. In fact, I liked the free sample so much I ordered some of their more specialized cleaning stufff (Carbon Cutter) to hit some parts on my AR that had been neglected for a very long time. However, by the time I received the parts, the SLIP2000 CLP I had used to lube those parts after the last cleaning had worked most of that built up carbon and grime loose and there wasn't much point to trying it out.

Mostly though, I wondered why I hadn't heard about the product sooner when I saw such a dramatic difference in how well it worked. What's a product you've found to be a great deal but just haven't read or heard much about despite that?

Got a web site for slip 2000 id be interested to try it ... been trying blue wonder seems to work all right as a apply and leave for 10 mins then come back

The CLP product is called "Gun Lubricant" but is actually a CLP and can be ordered through GSA. It also exceeds the milspec for CLP. This is the product I used; but they have several other lines.

I also ordered the Carbon Cutter (haven't had a chance to try it yet) and they sent me a free sample of their 725 Degreaser. The Degreaser looks has an orange tint and citrus smell and reminds me of those Simple-Green style citrus degreasers. It works kind of like a Gun Scrubber but without the fumes and smell. Product literature indicates it is safe on plastic and wood; but I haven't had much chance to test that out yet. All I've done with it so far is spray down a firing pin from an AR. It did OK there in removing some baked on carbon around the collar.

Did you test FP-10? I like that stuff, and got three bottles for about $20 with their X-Mas special last year.

For heavy degreasing, like with cosmoline, I use Purple Power from Wal-Mart. Powerful stuff - I found out on my first Mosin it'll take the finish right off! :)

Hey Standing Wolf

I only used a Lewis Lead Remover one time, and have shot hundreds of thousands of cast bullets in revolvers, including magum loads. Either you have a terrible barrel condition or you are shooting bullets that are too soft or improperly lubricated. My problem was caused by poorly lubricated bullets that were too soft. Never used that brand again. Won't mention name, but there are some out there with big names. A good hard cast bullet will not lead in a good barrel normally. Even a soft bullet with good lube will give you good service at lower velocity. Try a good hard bullet and you will be able to throw away your Lewis Lead remover. Although good for their purpose, if you have to use one, you need to solve a bullet problem. Life will be much better if you do. Obviously, accuracy will degrade if lead is building up in your barrel.

Yes I did. SLIP2000 beat both FP10 and Breakfree by a noticeable margin in my opinion; but without a research lab that is mostly subjective on my part. Here is some hard data from both companies.

FP10s website shows their Falex Wear Test here:
http://www.fp10.com/htmls/FRICTION WEAR & ABRASION TESTS-FP-10(TES73-76).htm

Protection:
FP10 doesn't have any corrosion tests conducted by a third-party lab. They do have some very detailed tests detailed here:
http://www.fp10.com/4producttest.htm

However, I'd add that my own much less scientific and informal testing didn't show the same results and that in contrast Breakfree seemed to have a clear edge over FP10.

Throw away a Lewis lead remover? Heck, I'd just as soon throw away a gun!

Seriously: it removes all the crud and lead. I don't have much of a lead problem, since most of my center fire ammunition is very light for target shooting, but I've still never found anything that cleans a barrel as quickly and easily as a Lewis lead remover.

Bartholomew Roberts...

They offer a free sample in their web text but I couldn't find a way to order it - they went directly to the order/cart page. Do you have to buy first?

Also - everything is about "metal"... how about the effect on the non-metal parts of Glocks?

You have to contact them (either through email or the phone number) and request a free sample. The SLIP2000 Lubricant works just fine on my Glock with no ill effects. I haven't tried any of the cleaners on it though.

It mentions that Carbon Cutter can be stored in a plastic jar and the 725 Degreaser claims it can be used on plastic and wood; but I've yet to test that claim.

I'm going to try Slip2000...
Can someone answer a question...does the spray (aerosol or pump) come out in a fine mist (like RemOil) or a stream (like Breakfree)?
Thanks

thanks for the info

I've seen an ad or two for slip2000, and thought it might be useful for slides and trunnions. I will have to give it a try.

I have been thinking about trying RIG and Kroil, but this seems as if it would do everything they do and more.

I do appreciate you sharing the results of your research. I've been using Breakfree and been pretty happy with it.

I sure enjoy my Dewey cleaning rods. They don't get a lot of press, but they are mighty nice to work with. Nothing new, but highly recommended.

Slip 2000 is a great lubricant but the Carbon Cutter is awesome.

I am a skeptical person by nature. When I was "molested" by the Slip 2000 folks at the Infantry Conference and they began extolling the wonders of their product I thought "here we go again." Part of the pitch was how the Carbon Cutter "ate" carbon and they showed me a clean bolt. I had just returned from a fairly intense carbine course the night before and had not had time to clean my rifle before reporting to work. I told them I had a bolt that had about 1200 rounds on it and they could show me the miracles of their product by cleaning it. Much to my surprise, they accepted.

After about a 15 minute soak in the Carbon Cutter and a couple of wipes with a paper towel, my bolt looked brand new, as in no sign of carbon. None. Needless to say, I was (and continue to be) sold.

Not only did they clean my bolt but they used it for the rest of the week as a demonstration piece. As a testimony to what a great group of people they are, they were kind enough to provide me and some co-workers with a healthy supply of their products.

I have no interest in SLip 2000 other than the fact that I believe in the product line. Try their products out. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Incidentally, my unit's M-4's are currently "marinading" in Slip 2000 in preparation for our upcoming deployment. I can not give it any better endorsement.

Anyone?

The spray can sprays out in a mist, and the trigger spray or pump spray bottle sprays out in a mist or stream. Just depends on how you turn the nozzle.
hope this helps. Check out there web site. They are offering a buy 2 and get the third one Free...Can't beat that

we use the 725 cleaner/degreaser at our range. it really cut through the packing grease of the sig mags we were recently issued. it just feels funny, for someone who grew up with hoppe's and breakfree, to clean your gun in somthing that feels like soapy water.

it really removes ALL the grease. guns need to be lubed afterward...we're still using breakfree CLP for that.

i may have to order some of their other products

Thanks to this thread I went ahead and took advantage of the buy 2/get 1 free promotion. I have a couple of revolvers and a 1911 I can't wait to try it on.
When I mentioned the carbon build-up on the cylinder face of my 626 the guy even threw in a sample of the carbon cutter to try. Nice service, and if it's as good as I've been reading they'll have a customer for life.
Thanks for the tip.
