Just like the title says, whats the best light available for the little Glock 42? Its my EDC piece and since we spend half our lives in the dark, a light seems like a good idea to have a light.

I can't help you choose a light for your 42, but I agree with the need for one.
I bought one for my sr9c, and it made its way to my AR. I got another for my pistol.
My only advice is that you get the strobe feature and a quality pushbutton switch. I carry my weapon light in my pocket during the day. 20170105_143434.jpg

There aren't many market options for the G42. Viridian, Streamlight, and laserlyte are the only 3 I have seen. I'm mixed on the viridian, as I don't really want it to come on when I draw it, but of course, it can be used as a manual.

I personally don't like all of the strobe features on weapon lights. I prefer to have one either only strobe, or only be on, but would rather not need to toggle between activation styles to do one or the other. I'd rather have a handheld strobe only and weapon light always on, or vice versa.

Having a light on your pistol doesn't mean you have to use it, it only means you can if you need to. If you're the type who trains to function one handed; reloads, malfunction drills, etc, then you should be equipping a weapon light too.

A couple of data points...

From Tom Givens https://revolverscience.com/2016/04/01/low-light-red-sights-and-tom-givens-glock-35/
...in the 60 plus defensive shootings his students have been involved in, the lighting (or lack of lighting) was a factor in the outcome in exactly ZERO cases.

Q. Does Tucker recommend carrying a defensive pistol with a light attached to an accessory rail?

A. Tucker says, "If you're on a SWAT team, go for it. If not, your pistol is a quick-response tool for a sudden and extreme self-defense situation. If you have a light on the gun, you may find it distracting enough to slow dowin your response."
