Best money ever spent on a firearm?

I bought a new national match M-1 (springfield) made at Rock Island arsenal chambered for 7.62 mm for $200 in 1972. A lot of money back then.
It was new and I just played with it for over 10 years untill I started shooting in competetion.
I won my first 10 Leg points at Camp Perry with that rifle and several more before I retired it and started using the m-14.
It was an excellent rifle that I rebarreled once while using it in competetion and then put the original barrel back on the reciever and traded it for another M-1, a new in the box 300 win mag. model 70 and $500 cash.
It would no longer hold the 10 ring but the guy who got it said it was the best shooting rifle he every had.

Ten years ago, a friend went hunting in Alaska, except, his rifel didn't make it there. He raised H--L with the airlines, and they actually gave him $300,00 to buy something else with. He found a sporterized Springfield '03 in a gunshop in Anchorage with a peep sight nicely installed, a really pretty Fajen stock, and a 19" bbl, for $150.00. He picked it up and killed a moose with it. When he got ho,e, his Rem. 700 BDL in 7mm Mag had showed back up. He asked the airline (starts with American) what they wanted to do with the '03 and they said keep it, they had no way of accepting or disposing of it. He put it on consignment at a local gunshop for a couple of months till the consignment agreement expired ($400.00), and ask if I wanted it for the 150.00 he paid. I said sure, took it out and shot it a couple of times with the peeps and it was astounding. I had Lou Williams in Ft. Worth mount a 4X12 Accutrack, replace the bolt handle and safety, and the 80 year old piece shoots 3/4" 100 yd groups all day (it does like heavier bullets though, 180 gr +). I installed a Pachy Decellerator on it, and she is gorgeous for the 150 + 300 (scope and mount) + 250.00 bolt and safety work = $ 700.00. I enjoy shooting it greatly because of it's history (Lord only knows what game it took before coming into my possesion), beauty (the older Fajens were truly fine pieces of wood), and the reactions I get when firing at the range and they lean over to see what it is:)

Tough Question...

Probably a used, custom SAKO L-61 smithed by the late Creighton Audette. I knew him but I never figgured I would own one of his rifles. A true gentleman and craftsman.........Essex

I guess I would have to say a S&W model 58 for $81.00 new.. It was my duty gun for 13 years.. We survived 3 gunfights.

I still have it.. My son will get it someday when I am done with it, and his son after that..

I think it was $81.00 well spent.

Both for monetary value and how much I enjoy it, I'd have to go with my Springfield XD45 for $300 cash.

Yes, it was a legitimate purchase. Nothing Semi-legal or fishy about it. Purely a case of being in the Right Place at the Right Time.

K31, 'nuff said!! :D

CZ52 because of its power and the price.

1911A1 "Colt" Systema....way overpriced and the constant hammer bite has given me a permanent scar.......still one of the best things I have ever bought!!! :D

Y'all are gonna laugh at this one, but I have to add to my "best buy" list - An NRA commemorative edition Gamo .177 cal. (100 FPS) air rifle with 4x32 scope. We have a reall bad squirrel problem in my neighborhood. As winter approaches they try to nest in the eaves of our houses. Not a good thing. I talked to my neighbors to see if they had any objection to me doing a little backyard varmint hunting. They were all for it, and in fact the guy who lives behind me offered $5 for every tail I bring him! Just nailed #14 and #15 this morning. At this rate, the thing will have paid for itself by winter's end. :D

I'm not laughing, and I can actually relate. Borrowed my neighbour's 1000 FPS pellet rifle and got many a squirrel and pest rabbits in my backyard when I had it.

My best buy to date is my Springfield Armory 1911. I picked it up used for $650 (it was very lightly used). It has turned out to be quite a shooter and my all time favorite 1911.

That would be my SA58. Cost me a grand used. I've played with it and shot it lots, and to this day picking it up makes me as happy as the day I bought it. Its such a cool gun.

This is tougher to answer than I thought it would be.

If I give it some time, it will probably be the money spent on my Marlin 39A eventually; I really like it so far. That being said, I've gotten some great service out of some other items. I can't pick one conclusively.

A real fence-riding, non-commital answer, I know.... :D

I have 2, one is my USPf 45 which came from the factory in an LE configuration (3 12 round mags) in variant 2 with night sites for $750. My other one was a surprise which was a 340PD, it wasnt that cheap, but its my most versital and one of my most trusted weapons

1) S&W 65-3 with a 3" barrel,paid 300 bucks
online 3 years ago.It has become my daily
carry piece,4500 rounds later it's as tight as
the day i bought it.

2) Ruger MKII 512,paid 200 bucks at a local
shop 4 years ago.It came with a gold bead
front sight and trigger job.

3) mossberg 500A 12 gauge with a 18.5"
barrel. This one cost me 145 bucks from a
local dealers online auction.I added a raised
front sight base with a oversized bead and
a limbsavers recoil pad.A great old school
blued steel and wood defensive shotgun.

All of these were in near new condition when
i bought them and have given me outstanding
service over the years.

Best buys and values (even if they are sentimental):

S&W mdl 19. 4" bbl, RR/WO Rosewood stocks. Target hammer/target trigger.
$247.00 in 1979. This revolver has over 15,000 rounds through it and it just keeps on going!

DCM M1 Garand. Got notification to send in my money ($165.00) the day after the DCM raised the price from $94.00! $165 is still a bargain. The year, 1984/'85.

S&W mdl 41 in .22 lr. $200.00. Condition of sale, IF I ever sell the pistol, the original owner wants first 'dibs'. (This one will NEVER be sold. Most favorite rimfire.)

Colt Gold Cup, NM. This pistol is easily my most favorite centerfire handgun, period. Cost $350.00, in 1985.

Remington 870 Wingmaster. Christmas present from my wife, the first year we were married. (Priceless!)

Remington 870 Wingmaster 'Police' - 1980 model. Closet queen when I found it. Price - $210 out the door. Doesn't appear to have been fired more than twice. (I found it this year!)

That is my list of 'favorites' and best money spent.

Kimber Pro Carry II in pristine condition for $550. I've trusted it with my life for the last 3 years.

Another great buy was a Nickle Belgium Browning Hi-Power for $400.

Browning Buckmark pistol. For the sheer joy of introducing my children to the joys of pistol shooting. That little shooter goes through 200-400 rounds per range trip.

My best deal was a Schults and Larsen Rifle in 7x64 Cal. I traded a small amp I bought for ten bucks for it. Was a beautiful rifle that had a smooth as silk bolt action. Traded it a few weeks later for six rifles from a guy that really wanted it.

That ten bucks ended up making me over 600 dollars back in the mid 70's.

All my firearms purchases are! :D All my guns I shoot, all my guns serve a purpose and all my guns I got at a fair price :D

This is a good thread, but not easy!

I look at all of my firearms every week, admire and clean them, all the while recalling when I purchased each. But, if I had to say the very single most fond memory of purchase, difficulty to locate for purchasing, joy of holding and thrill of using, it would have to go to my Colt WWI reproduction.

This is kinda tough, because I always look for screaming deals on my guns. Most every one I have, I could get more than I paid. That said...

Best deal money wise, bar none would be my Thompson Contender .357 Herrett. Thru exceptional trading skills, I got it free plus $150.....:D

To ice the cake, it's incredibly accurate

Money best spent.... probably my Bushie AR. Accurate beyond belief and way fun to shoot. Also, my 870 that I've used for hunting more times than I could count.

This is like having 50 kids and trying to pick a favorite.

Best surprise: Steyr M40-A1, got it new on a trade for a used Glock, and it is an outstanding gun - well built, reliable, and every bit as accurate than my SIGs.

"Worth every penny" award goes to my Remington 700P LTR, since it is the best balance of precision accuracy, light weight and portability I've ever experienced.

Most fun for the least money would be my Marlin 1894C, at $335 new its just plain fun.

I traded a 600 mHz Dell P3 for this beauty. :)
