What is your "best buy" firearm?

A S&W Model 17-4 with box and papers. It looks brand new. It was laying on the counter at a LGS. The owner said he'd just taken it in trade and had $200.00 in and would take $225.00. I grabbed it and ran.

I can't top some of these killer deals but I have $225 in my Savage 24 in .22wmr/.410 and have had offers up to $400 on it. Also my $90 M44 is now apparently worth up to $250. I wish I'd bought one of those crates of unissued Yugo SKSs a decade ago for a grand, they'd be worth about 3x that now! Time for an old timer to chime in with a surplus 1911 story or similar...

Around 10 years ago I bought 2 Mausers, 1 8mm Turk
And the other a 6.5 Carl Gustofe Swede $150 for the pair.
Sold the Turk for $125 so I had $25 into the Swede.
That swede hooked me into my next best deal...
Ruger 77mk ll in 6.5x 55 from a guy who wanted a tire
For his bike. Paid $300 for it and haven't even thought
About getting a big boy gun for deer since.

I bought a new Fausti O/U shotgun from Wal-Mart for $350 dollars. Later I went back and the clerk told me the price should have been about $650-700 dollars but that's what happens when u employ people who have no product knowledge.

I have several, for instance a $17.00 NIB GI 1911A1 and a $14.50 NIB 03A3 and 03A4.

Last week I bought a once fired Glock 33 for $350. I'm not a Glock fan but even a new Glock is worth $350.

As far as the best price I paid for a gun, I got a NIB $4,000 S&W 500 for a little over $400.
I didn't want the gun. I don't even like it, but couldn't turn it down for that price.:)

Was this at an estate sale? Or someone who didn't care about the price and just wanted to get rid of unwanted guns?

Military Surplus

My one and only gun to date - a Mosin-Nagant 1891/30, made in 1933 at Tula Weapons Factory in Soviet Russia. Gun is in excellent condition. I purchased it in April 2010 for $89.95 online. It came with a sling, ammo pouch, bayonet, oil/solvent can and cleaning kit. The 7.62x54R cartridge is similar to the .308 Winchester and I can buy a 20 round box of new production ammo, made by Bear Ammunition in Russia, for $8.95. I can reliably shoot groups in a 8" inch circle at 25 yards shooting standing offhand. The Mosin-Nagant rifle is simple and rugged and has not failed me once. :)

I got a Norinco AK for $350, complete with box, 3 mags, bayo, oiler.

When I posted it on another forum, I was told the same setup was worth between 1200 to 1600.

I would be laughing uncontrollably if I saw someone trying to sell a Norinco AK for $1,200+.

You got a good deal, for sure, but it wasn't that good.

Best deal on a gun? That would have to be the KelTec P32 I bought when they were new for $240.00 OTD. :what: It was reasonably accurate and functionally perfect with both magazines and any ammunition I threw at it. It resided in my right rear pants pocket for years regardless of whatever else I was carrying. I never had to use it for anything and over the years the finish all but disappeared. :uhoh: So why would that be the best deal on a gun? Well, I traded it almost straight across for this:

I bought a Polish Tokarev from Classic Arms this year for $250 (handpicked). I brought it home, checked it out, right out of the box, put all eight in the black at about 50' at the local range, took it apart to clean it...and have been astounded by the fit, finish, and robustness of this pistol! I have made better deals (i.e., could sell for more than I paid), and been gifted with some nice ones, but this was one of those where I was thrilled with the value for dollars of it.

i was talking to my buddy about how i want another .22. He's not much of a shooter and said he had one under his bed that he got 20some years ago as a present from his dad. after a couple questions i determined it was a ruger 10-22. i asked him how much, he said $80.
i agreed to the terms and when i got the rifle, it was a BNIB ruger carbine 10-22, never fired, looked like it just came off the shelf.

i also just got a SS TC encore .50x209 with nikon omega scope, SS vanguard .338WM with leupold 3x9, and a SS savage .375HH with 3x9 leupold scope for $750 total.

Some of you have found amazing deals. Thats really cool. My best finds are a Draco ak pistol that i think i paid $225 new. Theyre going for $500+ around here now. Next was an unfired lnib CZ75b for $400 otd.

I cannot count the old Winchester Model 62 .22 pump rifle I saw in the corner of my grandma's garage about 45 years ago. When I inquired about buying it, one of my uncles said it was his and he gave it to me. I had refused on principle from taking any money for cutting grandma's grass every week as a twelve year old, so I actually did not 'buy' it.

My 'best buy', as in bang for the buck, undoubtedly is the CZ82 in 9mm Makarov I had delivered to my door as a C&R purchase for a little over $200. For me it has been an unbeatable value for the price.

6" nickel Python 99%. $600 with 1000 rounds of factory reloads.

Colt Lightning rifle SFPD (anyone recognize that?). $900

Not a gun, but a great buy: Mini 14 GB factory folder stock on a gun show table $85
Owner didn't know what it was

Marlin 36AS,30-30,with a cheap throwaway scope, for 150.00 at a pawn shop.Nice condition, It will shoot a inch with my handloads if I do my part.biker

S&W Brazilian contract M1917 revolver in .45 ACP for $200. It had a damaged extractor star ratchet for one cylinder which I was able to clean up with a small file in 15 minutes. Got some .45 Auto Rim brass to load so I wouldn't have to fuss with moon clips, and now it's my most accurate hangun.

Do trades count?
I traded a new laserjet 4000T for a mid 50's custom Sako L46 .222 with the solid floorplate in 99% condition, and a 1972 Marlin model 1894 in 44 mag with the saddle ring still attached.

Guess sometimes in life you can step in a pile of Poo and come out smelling like roses, not often but I did once. Bought a Colt revolver for $350.00, I told the owner he should ask at least $500.00 but he sold it to me for the $350. Turned out to be worth close to $5000.00. Wish I could do that a couple times a week

Garage sale buys.

1. Winchester 62a pump .22 in 80% condition $75
2. Remington 870 20ga 1967 model 2 3/4" vent rib mod choke 85% $90
3. Rossi 62a repoduction octogon barrel .22 $80
4. H&R .410 snake charmer $50

Other than that a lent a guy some cash.

In 1992 or 93 I was working summers for my uncle who owned a concrete construction company. One of the guys liked the bottle; he would get paid on Friday and was broke by Tuesday. He borrowed money from me before and never paid me back. So when he asked again I wanted some collateral. For $50 he gave me a Ruger SRH 7 1/2" stainless .44mag with a leupold fixed 4x scope and holster to hold onto until payday. Well I still have the gun never did get my $50 bucks back. So I guess I bought my first pistol at the age of 16
