Best Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permit?

Utah because they don't discriminate against Non-Resident permit holders like Florida does.

One question I have. I have read more states refusing to recognize an out-of-state permit if you do not live in that state, or the issuing state. Out of all of the states that recognize either Florida or Utah, how many of them recognize those permits if you do not live in Florida or Utah?

States that reconize: (from handgunlaw.us)

Florida: AK*, AL, AR, AZ, CO, DE, GA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, MO, MS, MT, NC, NH, ND, NM, OH, OK, PA, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT*, WV, WY

Utah: AK*, AL, AR, AZ, CO, DE, FL, GA, ID, IN, KY, LA, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NH, NM, OH, OK, PA, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT*, WA, WY,

states".**Colorado (CO), Michigan (MI), South Carolina (SC), New Hampshire (NH),Florida (FL), Kansas (KS) and West Virginia (WV) only honor permits from residents of the issuing states. (* Vermont (VT) &
Alaska (AK). Anyone who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed. No Permit/license is required.)

You need to correct you post.
PA will accept any permit on there list regardless of residence. So Fl out of state is good .

I've submitted the correction, along with a link to the PA AG's site stating that fact to handgunlaw.us.

I have both Utah and Florida non-res permits and since I travel to both PA and FL every year, the Florida permit is the one I rely on the most. Good to go in all states between Ks and PA except IL and W. Va, good in all states between Ks and FL. Do I disarm driving through IL and W Va, I'll never tell. Mike

On edit, if you travel to PA or FL your non-res Utah permit is no good in those two states. FL only honors one non-res permit and that is their own.

It looks like New Hampshire is the easiest and cheapest to get.

Yes, but it is only recognized by 22 states. Utah and Florida are recognized by 31.

Utah is nicer than FL in that it's cheaper and, well, cheaper. It's bad in that they are entirely overwhelmed by CCW applications and have, as I last heard the rumor, started to prioritize UT resident applications over out of state applications. It might take you a while to get your app processed.

Just got a reply back from handgunlaw.us. Their site will be updated with the PA reciprocity change

So, basically Florida gets you West Virginia and not Washington, while Utah gets you Washington and not West Virginia. Is that the only difference?

Can you get a non-resident permit for either West Virginia OR Washington?

What pisses me off is that New Hampshire and Vermont are the only New England states that have much of anything in terms of reciprosity. This is a pain, because New England states are so small and I've got family in several New England states. Its really annoying to have to apply to two or three states individually and Mass is even more irritating, because its non-resident permit is only good for a year.

I researched all this a year or so ago, and based on that, I'd say Utah, because you can do the entire process by mail once you take a local class taught by a Utah approved instructor.

If Florida allows all by mail I was unaware of that fact.

W VA does not recognize FL or Utah.

When I applied for my FL CCP, they accepted my KS CCL training certificate, it had to have my trainers NRA cert number on it. I went to my local police department and they fingerprinted me for both applications and mailed everything in. With the FL application there are instructions on the back of the envelope they send. Follow them to the letter, the item that throws most people is that the Officer that fingerprints you has to sign the form and below that in a separate box put the name and address of the police force they work for. They will kick it back if the address is not on the form. Mike

Washington

Yes, you can get a non-resident WA permit. But you have to go to Washington to get it. Local cop shop if I recall, but you may have to make an appointment first.

NH is easy to get once you have another carry permit. So once you have a florida or utah fill out the one page form for NH, copy a carry permit you have and send them 20 bucks. No prints no photo no headaches. And I think it only takes 2 weeks.
Fyi to get your Fl you need some sort of firearms training or a dd214. For Utah you must be instructed my a utah instructor. the class is almost the same as the nra basic pistol. It just touches on a few other things. There are utah instructors all over the country you just need to find one.

For NH you need any carry permit, it can be a non-res from any state.

Yes, the NH permit is easy to get. The problem? I don't see where it adds much to my GA permit. Add on my UT permit, and I don't think it gets me anything.
