best powder for .45 ACP

For bullseye ammo, I'm using N310. But I've started planning to load some ammo for plinking/an ammo stash. I've been pointed to BE-86 a lot. Apparently roughly the performance of Unique, but it meters better.

I have been using Bullseye for a long time for my 45 ACP "classic" loads. 230 gr FMJ over a classic 5.0 gr. Bullseye has performed quite well in a few thousand rounds. I have 2 JIC loads for my 45s; the 5.0 gr Bullseye load and second load of upper level charges of Universal, both with 230 gr. FMJ or 225 cast LRN. Other bullets use mostly Universal and CFE Pistol (200 gr. PCed SWC likes upper CFE loads in my 1911)...

Thanks for all of the input. I think I am good with Unique and Bullseye for a while.
What size do you cast to? will powder coating add to the dimension? Size after powder coating?

I've had good results with Power Pistol and 200g XTP's. 7.3g at 1.240" ran approx 950fps over my chronograph. Depends on if you're looking for velocity, accuracy, recoil, muzzle flash...etc. Titegroup gives me excellent accuracy and a soft shooting round but lower velocities. For everyday range fodder, Bullseye is my go to.

Don't remember where/when I found it But I have a bunch "classic" loads for my JIC (just in case) ammo. 5.0 gr Bullseye under a 230 gr FMJ. Works quite well in my 3, 45 Autos. Sometimes I use a different bullet, 230 gr too.

I size my cast bullets to .452" for all my .45 autos. I use a lubesizer though, and haven't tried any coated bullets in .45.

Powder coating does add to the bullet size though, and I seem to see most folks who powder coat doing sizing after coating.

What is better for 230 gr XPT .45ACP. Bullseye or Unique (witch I have a lot of) or something else. I have no more W231 left

Either will work. I think the faster burn rate of the Bullseye lends itself better to heavy 45 bullets though as you will probably max out at probably 800 FPS or so. Faster burning powders tend to have better recoil impulse with heavy bullets as well.

You will like BE-86 with the hollow points Soupy44.
Actually, BE-86 is pleasant to shoot with 230gr FMJ also.
Shoot well,
Paul

I've used 6.0 grs of Unique with a 200 gr lswc as my standard 45 acp load for almost 50 years. Gives me about 900 fps in my 45s. Adequate for practice or SD.

I used to like Accurate no. 5 for my 200 grain semi wadcutters. HP-38 is not on my "friends list" due to an incident about 20 years ago. My reloading partner had an overcharge issue with it and made a mess of his 1911.
