Last year when I started reloading it was for my .270 win. With IMR 4831 and a 130gr Barnes TTSX I took my biggest buck ever though I never actually measured my groups with those loads. This year I used IMR 4350 and 130gr Nosler Partitions and wound up with my second biggest deer. I actually measured my groups with the Noslers and a 3 shot group at a 100 yards did an honest .75 group with an off the shelf Browning A-bolt. Needless to say, i'll be reloading for the rest of my life now
I'm also a fan of IMR 4350 for both of these calibers. I have 3 270's and an old Smith & Wesson 25-06 and all will shoot 1/2" groups with this powder if I do my part.
He uses 4451 for 6.5 CM, and 30-06. Both rifles are Savages with 26" barrels. Ive thought about trying it with my .308 with a 26" barrel, but it might be too slow.
Being that the 25-06 and 270 are nothing more than a necked down 30-06, it should be fine providing you have enough barrel to burn the powder completely.
Edit: As far as bullets and exact charge weight go. I have no idea. I know his guns are accurate because he makes accurate ammo!
While it's true that there many time several powders that can be used in different cartridges, it's much less common for the best powder on one cartridge to be the best in another.
IMR 4831/H4831 have been a main stay for both cartridges for ages ...
Now days we can add many more to the very suitable list ... RL 22, RL19, Rl 17.... IMR 4350, IMR 7828, several of the new IMR powders .... plus a number of other brand of powder ...
I have loaded for both cartridges for many years ... either one can be easily loaded ...
I just worked up some loads with RL19 and IMR 4064. Have been using IMR 4350 but wanted to see how some others work. I have had great success with the Barnes 130gr TTSX over 54.5grs on 4350. My rifle loves that recipe!
IMR 4831 under Nosler Accubond... Personally I shoot max load under 140gr with Fed 210, just upped the charge to max ( per Nosler Data) after season ended. Shot them at the range yesterday with GREAT results, today loaded a bunch more...
I generally have used IMR4350 since H450 was discontinued. During the recent short supply, I couldn't find any IMR4350, so I tried a pound of Hodgdon Hybrid 100V, which is slightly slower burning than IMR4350. It gave very good accuracy and meters extremely well, being a very short stick powder. I am thinking it will become my go-to powder for my .270.
