I have recently acquired a Norinco SKS, and plan to get a Badace mount that replaces the rear sight. I'd like to mount a red dot sight on that, and am looking for recommendations. Has anyone here done this successfully?

For the type of shooting I do, I really like the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot on a scout scope mount. It is the best way to go if you want to shoot a fast moving target.

My most recent TRS-25 was a little low powered for full sunlight, but otherwise it's one of my favorite little optics.

what do you think about this front sight mount?

I use that same clamp mount on my Sub2000 for its dot. works well enough. Id still probably go with the rearsight replacement tho, dont really like the idea of my dot allll the way out on the front of the gun.

There are no permanent alterations with the scout scope mounts that I have. You can easily remove the SKS rear sight to install the scout mount and if you want to reinstall the original sight, it's just as easy. You can quickly and easily swap out optics at will. Perform all rifle maintenance without having to re-zero it. I have two rifles with these mounts on them and I couldn't be happier.

Here's a link, check it out. https://scoutscopes.com/

I'm running a TRS-25 mounted on my front handguard, IMHO this or over the rear leaf sight is the best spot for an optic if you don't want any interference with strippers.
I went cheap, found a used Tapco railed upper handguard on ebay.
This is also where I mount a TRS-25 on my VZ-58 and all my AKs.
The AKs use a Hogue railed upper handguard, the VZ took some DIY but I bolted an aluminum pic rail to the factory handguard. Filing the back of the pic rail to match the curve of the handguard was easier than grinding down the back of the nuts to clear the piston. But that's been over 10 years and it still holds zero.
