I have heard really good things about targetsportsusa for ammo. I don’t usually buy bulk because I have a gun shop right next to me so if I knew I was gonna shoot I’d walk to the gun store and buy rounds. I know online is cheaper but that’s also with shipping and sense I don’t buy bulk I wouldn’t get free shipping. Also lately I’ve been looking for a good 22lr round, I’ve been using cci mini mags but for some reason they keep making a mess in my rifle. After around 50 rounds I have to take it apart and wipe everything down. Anyone know a good target round for cheap and isn’t as dirty I should say? Also is there any sites that you can buy ammo from that’s not in bulk. Mainly looking for 22lr and 223. Thanks all!

My two go-to online ammo shops are sgammo.com and targetsportsusa.com. Never had a problem with either.

I'm still wading through the mish-mash of ammo I picked up during the Great Drought, and I'm pretty much a garden variety plinker to begin with, so I'm going to stay out of the 'best ammo' question.

I hear ya with That one my father has a bunch of ammo he bought a while ago and he won’t buy any more until he shoots all his.

Another vote for SGAmmo.com, especially for premium factory JHP.

As to 22LR burning dirty, my recent range tests shooting Ruger 10/22, Thompson Center T/CR22 and ARs with CMMG 22LR conversion bolts averaging 500+ rounds per firearm, copper plated ammunition tended to be on the cleaner side compared to lead ammunition. For me, fouling build up really isn't much of an issue until round count approaches around 500-1000 at which time I usually clean the chamber/bolt with Hoppes #9 solvent.

BTW, using 20+ different ammo around 3000 round count, 10/22's barrel has not been scrubbed, just wet/dry patched and is shiny clean without any leading or fouling build up.

More accurate "cheap" plated 22LR I can recommend are:
  • Aguila 38 gr CPHP
  • Aguila 40 gr CPRN
  • Armscor 36 gr CPHP

I am getting smaller groups with T/CR22 than 10/22, especially with new scope mounts, and picked up some Aguila Pistol Match Competition instead of Wolf Match to compare with 25 other 22LR ammo along with Federal Match and Eley Sport - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...mmo-comparison-break-in.864241/#post-11405528

Check out top right 10 shot group - Very promising - I am hoping for better with Aguila Pistol Match Competition as it is already producing smaller groups in my 10/22 and T/CR22. Many are reporting Aguila Competition to produce CCI SV level of accuracy which has produced smallest group out of my 10/22 consistently.

SGammo is my favorite and I believe the quality of their premium defensive ammo is better than some others. I have no proof but there is some indication of factory seconds being sold as top quality by some online sellers. Inspect what you get (and test it) and judge for yourself and definitely keep in mind that if it seems too good to be true....

Buy a membership at outdoor limited and you can get free shipping on individual boxes.

Another vote for Target Sports USA. I live in MA and our Attorney General tried to stop the inbound shipments of all mail order ammunition. TSU is the only distributor that told her to "F" off and continues to sell online to us. That alone is enough for me to give them my business, but their prices are also competitive on all major brands of ammo.

I just tried it again, I get nothing.
https://ammoseek.com/

I just tried again and worked fine (I have cable internet with 100 Mbps download). I modified the search with "115 gr" and worked fine.

I am running Chromebook with uBlock Origin ad blocker.

I would suggest you restart your computer/laptop and if ammoseek still won't open, check for any blocked sights or security settings.

BTW, ammoseek, com is the primary search engine I use to update my $15-$20/500 shipped 22LR thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...15-20-500-shipped.853059/page-3#post-11359991

I would tend to point you back to the local store if volume is staying low. After shipping costs it will likely be cheaper and more convenient for just a few boxes. Where it starts to matter is specialty loads not readily available or going to case/crate/flat pricing on generic stuff like 22LR and 223/556. Otherwise paying $5 to $10 shipping on one or two boxes (or a $30+membership) probably isn't economical.

As for clean target ammo in 22LR, that can be a function of bullet type (lubed lead or plated) for bolt guns. If it's an auto like a 10/22 and you already use CCI other loads probably won't seem much better.

Usually an Eley or RWS load is going to do a good job wringing the accuracy out of a target gun. Doubt it would be noticable compared with CCI standard speed for most production guns.

Does anyone know if their new site actually works? I have to use the classic site to do any searching... and they've said that is not being updated/supported and will probably go away by the end of this year.

.
It works, I think it really sucks compared to the old one though.

The more I use it, the more I may not use it. I emailed them and asked them why they want to change something that works so well (No response). Also suggested that they hire a UX (User Experience) consultant to review thier changes proposed in the Beta version of thier site. Whether they did or not I dunno. My opinion is that they spent a bunch of money to take enough steps back to make them worse than their competitors. It's a shame. Bad decision Ammoseek leadership.
