Best way to sell online?

In y'alls opinion, what is the best way to sell firearms on the net? I have a couple 1911s (a Kimber and a Wilson) I am ready to get rid of and would like the most buck for my bang.

I know I can post them for sale on this board and I also frequently visit GunBroker (where I have a very good rating as a buyer), GunsAmerica, and AuctionArms.

I have heard that GunBroker is better for selling and AuctionArms is better for buying but the reasons given did not seem to be that convincing.

I would highly recommend posting pictures of whatever you are selling. My own personal preference is if I can't view the product for sale without asking for pics in a seperate email, I'll look elsewhere.

Also look around at your local gunshops and find out if they sell firearms on a consignment basis.

yeah i have a pic for each, i also dont buy anything sight unseen nor do i like having to ask for pics

I've sold and bought on both auctionarms and gunbroker. When selling I normally take a look at each site to see what compares to what I'm selling paying attention to the prices and bidding activity. What's nice about both sites is that you only get charged when you make a sale, not like EBAY which charges for just putting up an item. If it doesn't sell on one site you can always switch it to the other.

Auction sites want a cut of the sale typically.

I normally sell firearms I have for sale on auction arms.I have never been ripped off there and 2.5% of selling price is cheaper then anyplace I have found.Local shops charge from a flat rate of 44$ to 20%.
I ship by UPS with buyer paying for shipping.I have a friend that will do the FFL for hanguns and long guns seller doesn't need one to ship.
The one thing you need to do is learn how to package items.High density foam is on good trick.

I've never sold a firearm from an auction type site. I'd rather post here or somewhere like AR15.com to sell my weapon. There is usually more than enough interest generated in these sites to get your weapon sold for a price that will make both parties happy.

So far I've never had a problem with buying or selling online by using these sites or the former TFL.

10 Ring - As a seller there is no chance of being ripped off if you require either a money order or certified check. As a buyer there is some risk but I've bought close to 20 firearms over the Internet and never have had any problems.

I've bought several firearms over the net and never had a problem. I have noticed that ads with pictures and a price get more attention and usually sell quicker.

On the other hand, when buying, I've gotten a few good deals because the seller DIDN'T have pics and I was willing to take the risk when others wouldn't. Not everyone has a scanner, digital camera or web space to post pics. I don't have any of those things myself.

Pictures are essential for top dollar, and several views is best. Close-ups, both sides, bore, etc.
Also, most people search online auctions by the auction title, so make sure you have thr right keywords and spell them right. (I get a lot of great stuff off eBay by searching for mispelled auctions that nobody else finds)

If you should wind up selling on gunbroker.com, a few observations: the better the quality of the photos (and quantity, as previously mentioned), the higher the bids; sellers who start with high prices don't get bids--if you're selling a $750 gun, start out at $400 but put your reserve at what you'll let it go for; if need be, go overboard with your description of the gun; post your auction so that it closes at a time when people are likely to be online--I've seen a lot of guns go unsold, or under reserve, because the auction closed at 6am.

if i ever do a gunbroker auction i wont use a reserve, i dont see the point and they irritate the shyte out of me as a frequent buyer

no offense
